Chapter 71 - The Girl Told Me You Would Help
Ethan parked at a café; his vehicle and attire always attracted a lot of attention in this small town. It wasn't common for people to wear high-end black suits and drive such expensive cars.
But none of this mattered to Ethan. When you've been on so many missions where your life is at stake, you lose a certain sense of reality that affects everything.
"Good morning..." Ethan opened the door to a small café and decided to sit near the television to watch something entertaining while he had lunch.
These past few days, Ethan had been feeling a bit distracted, and the things he had been doing were very routine.
"Welcome! Here’s the menu; I’ll be with you in a moment!" said a young waitress as she handed Dominic the menu.
"[NASA officials are keeping their eyes on massive sunspots on the Sun's photosphere! Recently, these spots have been causing small explosions, reaching a critical level.
The recent solar explosion was very large, causing a malfunction in communication equipment. Therefore, reports sent to communication departments will receive the same response.
The Earth’s electromagnetic waves can travel into space from various electronic devices, exposing particles, which will cause communication interruptions.]"
"That's bad..." Ethan murmured, thinking more than he perceived.
"Not as bad as global warming, though many people don't care about that," the waitress approached Ethan and smiled. "Have you decided what to order?"
Ethan smiled slyly, lightly tapping the menu with his hands and said, "A chicken baguette and a cup of coffee, please."
The waitress nodded and said, "I'll bring it to you shortly; I'll be back in a minute."
Ethan nodded in response. After the waitress left, he thought, "Who would have thought you’d find the brightest people in the most unexpected places? She seems like a very intelligent woman, rarely seen these days."
"[In more recent news, the World Health Organization issued a public apology due to an unofficial statement announced on their largest social network, clarifying that there is no new virus and that the so-called Z-ViraX is just an error!
It is said that this virus has finally been removed from the list of risks because incubation within hosts ends up failing, and the virus is eventually exterminated by the body's defenses. However, they say they will issue a special statement to clarify all this doubt that has brought unnecessary attention.]"
"Just an error? That's pure lies; they want to brainwash us with all that news controlled by the same government. I'm sure of it. Maybe we're all infected already," said a man wearing a military cap as he sipped his coffee.
"It could be an error. Lately, with all this quarantine and virus nonsense, people are going crazy. Imagine the doctors—they're euphoric. Any small alert they would announce, even if they're not authorized, like that unofficial statement," a man in his fifties responded to the man who had just expressed his thoughts.
Yes, that's true. Ethan agrees with the last man who spoke. People, especially doctors, are on high alert for any kind of information they refuse to announce, but somehow, they've lost hope in people.
As Ethan sees it, this news isn't trending beyond jokes due to the insensitivity to death or simply because they haven't experienced the true terror of a global catastrophe. This news could have been generated after an attack by a dark entity that would inevitably affect many parts of the world or a large community.
"Here's your chicken baguette and your coffee. Call me if you need more coffee." The waitress snapped Ethan out of his thoughts.
"Thank you very much," Ethan said as his phone received a message.
While Ethan ate, he wanted to clear his mind to see if there were more people following him, but it didn’t seem like he had thought.
But at that moment, a girl with red eyes, as if she had cried a lot, entered the restaurant and very directly looked at Ethan, who was aware of her presence.
"It's you..."
Ethan looked up and murmured, "You're not my student."
"The girl told me you would help me. You're the man who kills bad people."
When Ethan heard this, he murmured, "Do you want a milkshake?"
