Chapter 91: Sweet Dreams
Humanity, regardless of skin color, name, origin, or even place of birth. Everyone, at some point, acted with humanity for someone else's good. Feeling compassion and a desire to survive no matter what happens is something that characterizes us as a species.
Scientific studies have shown that a person with suicidal intentions, when thrown into the sea and sinking into the water, would swim to the surface just to breathe. This demonstrates two things: their desire to live and their intention to kill is only a phase of their life.
Everyone desires to live a calm and happy life, seeking their happiness in marriage, joining their life with another person regardless of what a piece of paper says, or proving that they are someone in the world based on their success.
Throughout history, there have always been conflicts and wars, life-or-death struggles, and even committing immoral acts just to survive.
Dark entities have resurfaced, threatening all plans for people's future. With the discovery that there have been dark entities since ancient times, there is extreme concern knowing that these are becoming increasingly threatening.
Many people ignore the fact that they generate their own safety and happiness. I could swear that no one would think that many people suffer, cry, die, and kill to ensure a peaceful day for civilians.
"Is that your job?"
This is the first thing many say when trying to receive praise just for doing their job. Is public safety just a job? Dying in wars and confrontations with dark entities is not a job. Many agents who die and fight daily agree that dark entities should be revealed to the public.
"They need to know the truth about the end of their world." However, many believe it is too soon to reveal something that would change that peaceful and happy life out of unpredictable fear and terror.
The first thing that must be ensured is trust in the government. Those who defend that safety must have the confidence to eliminate 99.99% of dark entities.
However, even now, dark entities are something that many informed people overlook. As soon as they became aware of their abilities, they felt the fear of being prey.
A human, considered the most intelligent being par excellence, is apt to survive and lead underground. But suddenly, all that power and authority is slowly stripped away by some strange things that emerge out of nowhere.
"Yes, even in dreams I can't be safe. I should work during the day to create a happy world." Many had ambitions, crazy ideas, and personal feelings.
…
In a very messy hotel room, a man with glasses muttered, "Yes, with this publication, I will have the necessary recognition for people to realize the truth."
"I'm not lying to you!"
"These things are killing us while you live in lies."
How important is the truth in a person's life? Every time this topic arose, researcher Peter had the same opinion: the truth, knowledge, is very fundamental!
"Let me tell you something in this new recording. There is only one end in this world, and they are the demons."
Peter could still vividly remember the incident that changed his life a year ago. He had just been fired from a news station for lack of good reports and the decline of the reports he was delivering. For a while, he was investigating a kidnapping case. The report was going in the right direction, and just as he was about to finish, the kidnapper was suddenly killed right before he could report his suspicions to the police.
Yes, he personally watched people in combat uniforms kill that kidnapper.
"Association of the Light."
In fact, the only thing he could see on the uniforms, besides the weapons, was the abbreviated name "Association of the Light," which led him absolutely nowhere.
He had photos, recordings, and conclusive evidence for people to believe him. Initially, he thought that directly publishing all the information about what he discovered would bring him trouble. However, after a long time of warning and investigating the matter, he needed something to boost his impact. Therefore, he was about to publish all the information on the internet.
"Yes, yes, yes, all of you will listen to me."
Knock! Knock! Knock!
The sound of the door pulled Peter out of his thoughts. "I'm coming!"
"Food is here!" Peter muttered as he ran to the door.
"Thanks for the food," Peter said. Upon opening the door, his movements abruptly stopped.
"We're sorry, Peter, we're not the food delivery." A man in a black suit smiled warmly. Beside him, another man remained silent.
"Who are you?" Peter asked with a trembling voice. Instinctively, he felt something was wrong.
"You should know us; we are." The man in the black suit stopped after saying the last words and took out a business card.
Peter held the card, and his body froze upon seeing the name. "What do you want...? If it's because of my investigation, I won't publish anything. I swear it!"
"Mr. Peter, may we come in?" Without waiting for a response, the two men entered Peter's room.
Unable to do anything else, Peter slowly closed the door. When he returned to the living room, he stopped at a safe distance from the men in suits.
"We are the cleanup team of the Association of the Light. Our main job is to clean all kinds of trash that endanger and expose our organization to the public," said the man in the black suit.
"What is your name? What do you want? You know I won't say anything if you leave my room; I can leave the country." Peter was desperate.
"My name is just the cleaner... And about going to another country, that's not possible. Well, you will end up in the same place and be exposed to the same danger here." The man in the black suit, who calls himself the Cleaner, smiled.
"You know, if all the information you gathered in such an incredible way is revealed, what would happen?"
"The world would realize about the demons... Inevitably, they would have to expose themselves to the public and reveal what they know about demons." Peter murmured, completely convinced.
"Heh, heh, heh! Mr. Peter, you are a very enthusiastic person. Do you really believe that people in this country would be scared by your words?"
After saying that, the cleaner stood up and pulled out a weapon. While attaching a silencer, he looked at Peter, who collapsed to the ground with a shocked face.
"Let me tell you a story, Mr. Peter. The world won't listen to your words, and if they do, no one will believe you. In the hypothetical case that they did believe you, it would only take a month for them to stop talking about you and the demons."
"Humans are a very busy race. They enjoy searching for other things and forget what no longer entertains them. The world has taken care of silencing what you are investigating. Many soldiers die just so you and the people around the world can continue living your lives in peace." The cleaner said in a cold voice.
"Please, let me live!" Peter didn't want to die.
"I won't say anything; you swear it. I will forget everything I've been doing. Just as he thought he had persuaded the cleaner, two bullets hit his head.
Bang! Bang!
He silenced the gun to prevent the shot from attracting the neighbors' attention. While smoke was still coming out of the gun chamber, the man in the black suit shook his head.
"With this, it's the fourth one, you damn idiot."
"Is it okay for us to eliminate them?" asked the other man in the black suit who had not spoken until now.
"We can't lock them up in prison, nor can we leave them free and hope they don't say anything. That was your decision, and this was the organization's decision. The public may have an opinion, but the reality of this screwed-up world is ours." The cleaner said as he walked to clean up the mess.
"I understand, sir. I'll take care of the cleanup."
"Good, I'll go back and make the report."
…
Ethan, who was at home, received a call from a very worried Stiles: "Professor, I don't know how to tell you this, but Lydia is missing."
"Is she your girlfriend?" Ethan asked while reading the cleanup operation report.
"No, she's not my girlfriend."
"Then why are you worried?"
