Chapter 85: Information About the Serum
“Sister, what did you just do?”
“I’ve got it under control, Finney. Let me think.” Gwen was torn between decisions. She knew Ethan wasn’t there to force her into anything, but doubt was growing within her.
Not wanting to waste more time, Ethan said, “Last chance. I have a lot to do, and I could really save many lives if you accept this secret job.”
“You’ll never call me?”
“Never. You won’t be forced into anything, and you’ll only need to reach out if you detect any danger in this small town,” Ethan said, his kindness evident in his words, smile, and posture.
Gwen nodded and took the cellphone, but before leaving, she asked, “Are you just going to leave?”
“Of course. Here, take this disposable thousand-dollar card. You can use it for anything or save it—it’s the best way to keep you from being discovered.” Ethan handed her the card before turning to leave.
Gwen was a medium, which, simply put, meant she acted as an intermediary between disembodied spirits and living humans. Practitioners like her are known as “mediums” or “spiritual mediums,” and there are different types within this field, including divination tables, trances, and Ouija boards.
Belief in psychic abilities is widespread despite the lack of objective evidence supporting their existence. Scientific researchers have tried to determine the validity of mediums’ supposed abilities. An experiment conducted by the British Psychological Society concluded that the test subjects didn’t demonstrate any paranormal abilities.
This gave the Association of Light powerful tools to use against more powerful dark entities. Of course, Ethan had no intention of sentencing Gwen to such a life.
That didn’t mean he wouldn’t take advantage of her abilities if she proved useful.
At first, Ethan dismissed the possibility of Gwen having Ouija or divination skills; she didn’t seem to have any experience in those areas.
Knowing this, it was likely Gwen could access information through trances.
According to the data recorded by the Association of Light, experiences known as “falling into a trance” or “entering a trance” refer to a psychological mechanism in which a person submits to certain external or internal conditions and experiences an altered state of consciousness.
Trance states are always accompanied by changes in bodily sensations and autonomic nervous functions.
In short, the term “trance” is related to the concept of spiritual enlightenment.
Unfortunately, Gwen was still young and didn’t fully control her ability, so Ethan was only there to introduce himself, hoping to establish a connection with her for future use of her abilities if she ever decided to do more.
Beep-beep!
Before starting his car, Ethan checked an important message. “[Most of the content in the suitcase has been deciphered, and we also have information about the twins.]”
“Sooner than expected.” Ethan muttered before heading home.
…
Winchester Mansion, before five in the afternoon.
“Tyrant Serum?”
Ethan was in a lab beneath his mansion, surrounded by many researchers and expensive machines analyzing the serums they had obtained.
“Yes, and you have ten final and original samples created from Dr. Alexander’s latest research,” Sebastián said, handing over a full report.
Ethan took it and began reviewing it.
[The collection began with samples from mythical beings: the essence of a werewolf for strength, demon blood for speed, vampire cells for regeneration, fragments of other dark entities to enhance brain functions, and as a result, the supernatural ability of telekinesis was obtained.
Each sample was treated with advanced bioengineering and cellular anointing methods, extracting their purest properties.
The serum, finally completed, was a viscous and luminous mixture that promised to grant the recipient extraordinary abilities tailored to their personal talents.]
“So, one of these will enhance my strength.” Ethan took a dose and injected it into himself before anyone could react.
Sebastián watched Ethan and murmured, “It will turn you into a monster.”
“I’m already a supernatural being. If I don’t show any abnormal changes, I think it would be safe for my men to use these doses. However, I want you to test it on a volunteer first,” Ethan ordered.
“I’ll do as you say, boss,” Sebastián replied, observing that Ethan exhibited no abnormal changes.
