Chapter 46: Professional Investigation
The town's oldest coffee shop is located on the busiest commercial street in the city center. It’s a favorite spot for many office workers who don't want to be found.
At 10:30 PM, in the lobby on the second floor of the café, which has thrived thanks to loyal customers, Ethan, a young man wearing a leather jacket, was sitting with his chin resting on one hand while holding a police report in the other, stirring a steaming coffee.
One stir, two stirs, three stirs...
It’s unclear how much time passed until the man with a scar on his face sitting across from Ethan, someone named Liam, who had been Ethan’s right-hand man for the past five years and would do anything for him, finally spoke.
Liam, who hadn’t seen Ethan for a long time, said calmly after learning about the kind of monster that had been summoned in this place, "Boss, we need to reach out to other hunter families and coordinate with exorcists to ensure the mission results in as few casualties as possible."
"Agent Liam, we are agents of the S.G.C. If we keep running to the church’s exorcists every time we need help, we’ll be admitting that we can’t handle things on our own. Given that Ethan Winchester himself asked you and your men to assist in this mission, it means he has complete confidence in you. How could you say such words knowing who you’re dealing with?"
"I understand..."
Ethan suddenly put the documents aside, looking at Sebastian, who had dark circles under his eyes and whose eyelids were drooping as if he were about to fall asleep.
The now-empty café seemed even quieter.
After a while, Ethan sighed, reached up to touch the top of his head, and said with a wry smile, "There will need to be a curfew after we bring in the involved students. Then we'll take down the video, replacing it with a virus that will wreck the computers of any curious individuals."
"We’ve got that under control, but doing so could leak information, drawing the attention of dark web hackers. If they reveal the truth and expose the video, it could lead to far more deaths than necessary." Liam understood the implications of interfering in such a way with the free network, where everyone had control over whatever they wanted.
Sebastian, who had calmed down, said, "At least that would relieve us of the burden of deaths related to this dark entity. Now that we have the chance, we should kill it."
"The truth is, we can’t kill Slenderman. Other hunters have tried and failed." Liam shook his head, dismissing the idea.
Ethan, now more focused, recited the reports they had received from the Light Association. "We have detailed information on its existence."

"Good Lord, that enemy is impossible to kill."
"He hasn’t tried my weaponry. I think I can handle that son of a bitch," said Ethan, who controlled ancient weapons that had subdued thousands of dark entities of all levels.
JJ approached with a tray of chocolate donuts and asked, "So, what exactly is he after? I mean, to kill him, we need to know him better."
Every dark entity had a purpose, aspirations, and things that satisfied them.
"Although it’s rumored that he almost exclusively kills children, it’s hard to say if his only goal is massacre. Many times, sightings of him have been reported in forests near urban areas. He’s also been seen around large groups of children, as many photographs depict."
Liam pulled out a series of printed photographs and laid them on the table, then said, "It’s commonly thought that he resides in forests and jungles and feeds on children. He doesn’t seem concerned about exposure to daylight or being captured in photos."
"It’s often believed that he enjoys stalking people to the point where they become extremely paranoid. And yes, indeed, he continues to appear before them to perpetuate the fear he instills, especially targeting them. There’s also talk that there are 8 pages hidden in the forest where Slenderman dwells; if you collect them all, he will disappear forever."
Liam, who had studied the case on his way there, continued his explanation: "This entity frequently appears to float or hover instead of walking. That would explain how he’s able to maintain mobility despite his disproportionate body."
"Some people have already claimed sightings without being killed by him. However, official information on Slenderman's origins suggests encountering him primarily at night, peering through open windows, or appearing before lone drivers on deserted roads."
