Chapter 69: Why They Call Me Regent
"They made a grave mistake coming after the life of a Regent, especially when all of South America depends on me if a threat arises that can’t be dealt with by ordinary means." Ethan decided it was time to stop playing with these assassins.
As a Regent of the S.G.C., there was no need to go easy on these individuals.
When he mentioned this, five shadows appeared behind him, forming five silhouettes holding long black swords. Each of these silhouettes solidified into faceless humanoid beings wearing Oni masks, similar to conventional samurai masks.
The only difference between these beings and those who attacked Slenderman was that these were not here to seal but to kill, and there was no one better for the job.
It had been a long time since Ethan had used his power, but now he was more precise with it. He knew things were becoming more complex to handle with his usual abilities, and if he didn’t want to see his people die, he needed to unleash his full power.
Crack! Crack! Crack! Crack!
The silhouettes raised their swords, and before the twins could initiate their attack again, the shadows moved at terrifying speed. In an instant, four shadows incapacitated the twins by stabbing their swords into specific points.
"What are these things?"
"Damn it."
Ethan looked at the twins and murmured, "I only need one."
The remaining shadow appeared like an executioner before the twins, and with a swift motion, it decapitated one of them with ease.
"Nooo!"
As one twin fell, the other shadows withdrew their swords from the corpse and stabbed the remaining twin, who was still resisting.
Crack! Crack!
Without the surviving twin noticing, Ethan appeared beside him and asked, "Who sent you?"
"Arghhh!!!"
"That doesn't tell me anything. I think you're a good man; tell me, who sent you?" Ethan asked again with a smile.
But to the twin, this seemed like mockery, and he growled so fiercely that the ground beneath him began to tremble.
That was strange. Even Ethan furrowed his brows, unsure if this man was some new kind of dark entity or a superhuman with actual powers.
But before he could find out, the knife on the ground gently lifted and moved in his direction.
Crack!
Ethan's left hand was pierced, and the knife still seemed to want to continue its path with force.
"Psychokinesis…" Ethan looked more surprised than in pain.
Crack!
As he turned around, the twin’s head fell, the agents moved in, and Ethan said, "Carefully place them in the trucks. They will be biologically investigated; I want to know where their power really comes from."
"Understood."
Liam approached and whispered, "Sir, not just anyone has those abilities."
"I know. Investigate any pharmaceutical-related organizations and any involvement with the government." Ethan didn’t know where to start, but he knew where all this would end.
Psychokinesis is a psychic ability that allows a person to influence a physical system without physical interaction. Even dark entities rarely possessed this ability, indicating just how difficult it is to manipulate physical objects.
When the bodies of the slain were collected, the investigation went as far back as the hospital where they were born, and for security reasons, all would be eliminated.
Assassination missions were sent one after another; everything and everyone related to the twins would be wiped out. Even their pets would be burned before undergoing a rigorous examination.
Anything connected to the twins would be traced, and if there was any connection, it would be erased. What few know is the importance of Ethan in the S.G.C.; he is the Regent of an organization with millions of active agents, defending all of South America and parts of Europe. If he were killed by humans, then his followers would question many things about the organization.
Why sacrifice oneself for humans who seek their lives?
It’s better to reveal everything and let the rest of the world rot.
This was just a small taste of how bad things could get if even a single assassination attempt succeeded.
