Chapter 65: Faculty Gathering
Today was Saturday, a perfect day to spend watching any kind of sports competition. A perfect day to indulge, relax, and sleep in.
This wasn’t just something enjoyed by those who worked, but also by students who attended classes from Monday to Friday.
Saturday was the ideal day for both sides—a day to enjoy.
Ethan, wanting to adjust to his new fake job while fulfilling Anton's request, decided to make better connections with his colleagues. So, he invited them to watch lacrosse at his house.
A dinner that wouldn’t hurt anyone; after all, he had enough rooms to accommodate all the guests.
Bobby was the most excited because his favorite team, the Buffalo Bandits, was playing against the janitor's favorite team, so being together tonight, they could make all kinds of crazy bets.
"Are we picking up the others too?" Bobby asked, handing Ethan a jersey from his team and forcing him to wear it.
Ethan, seeing Bobby's excitement, said, "Of course, we'll pick them up. I'm afraid if we don't, they’ll get lost on the way to my house."
After picking up the janitor, Tom, they got Daniel, and soon everyone headed to Ethan's mansion, which was a bit far.
"I can’t believe you’re siding with the Buffalos; what a terrible choice," Tom said, wearing the opposing team's jersey.
Bobby glanced in the rearview mirror and said, "Stop bothering my buddy. You and Daniel always mess with me during our teams' matches. Now that Ethan’s on my side, I think it’s a fair match."
"Whatever, don’t cry when your team’s losing on the scoreboard."
"That won’t happen." Bobby trusted his team more than anything else.
Ethan, of course, didn’t have much to say, but as a good competition lover, he asked, "How about a bet?"
"Hmm, what are you willing to lose?"
"How about a trip to Miami? All expenses were paid. If you win, I’ll cover trips for you and your families, but if we win... Ethan wasn’t sure what to ask for; he didn’t want to exceed what these good workers could afford.
Bobby thought about it too. He was doing well with his jobs, so he suggested, "Every Saturday, dinner at Chesney's Farm Barbecue. That’s a good one."
"Will you pay for our trips?" Tom hesitated at this great proposal.
Ethan pointed to his truck and said, "Not to brag, but I’m rich; you can trust me."
"Yeah, this is a great truck." Bobby couldn’t deny that, but as they drove deeper into the woods, he asked, "You’re not taking us somewhere to kill us, are you, Ethan?"
"Not at all; I live here." Only then, when Ethan pointed ahead, could they see an enormous old mansion illuminated by large lights.
It wasn’t night, but the lights in this place gave a feeling of tranquility that was hard to find in places like this.
"Damn, you really are a millionaire."
Daniel, the most observant, asked, "How does electricity get here?"
"Underground current. If the world ever goes to hell, don’t forget to come to this place—it’s sure to save your life." Ethan then got out and greeted JJ, who was tending to the plants.
His work friends followed him, growing more excited as they entered the mansion.
Just when they thought the atmosphere might be a bit strange, a huge television appeared before their eyes, showing the preview of the game they were about to watch.
In the living room, there was a huge table full of food and drinks, and some of the people in the mansion were bringing in all the other things.
"Gather everyone; tell them they can join us to watch the game," Ethan said as he took off his jacket.
Sebastian nodded and, before leaving, greeted the guests.
"You outdid yourself, Professor Ethan; this is a great party," Bobby said as he walked toward the food table.
