Chapter 37: A Night
After Ethan dropped Stiles off at his house, he ordered a special team to monitor all of Stiles' movements and, of course, to have measures in place in case he lost control.
On the way back, Ethan was driving down a dark road when his focus on the path ahead was suddenly interrupted by a sharp pain piercing through his right eye.
"Arghhh!!!" Ethan clutched his eye as the pain became excruciating.
"What's happening?"
The pain was unbearable, even though he was trained to endure any kind of pain—this was different.
Ethan soon stumbled out of the car, walking a few steps before collapsing unconscious.
…
"Everyone who arrives in this world after their death has a mission, but you don't. You haven't done anything since you got here."
Ethan woke up in the middle of a lake, not submerged in the water but standing on it.
"Come out, witch. I'll kill you for messing with my mind."
Boom!
The water a few meters away from Ethan exploded, revealing a slimy creature that writhed.
As he would have in any other situation, Ethan reached for his weapons, but to his surprise, his belt was empty.
"Use your power."
"No." Ethan refused to use the same supernatural power that had taken the life of his only loved one.
"Even if you're about to die? You know better than anyone that you're a hypocrite. You don't remember where your hatred for dark entities began, and your only excuse is to justify those massacres by using the death of that little girl."
Ethan, who was furious, calmed down, his gaze softened, and he murmured, "Is it you again?"
In front of Ethan, a figure identical to him but with darkened eyes stared at him with a smile. "I am the power you've been rejecting; I am your supernatural side."
When Ethan heard this, he lowered his gaze, and the reflection in the water showed his eyes completely black. From his back, numerous translucent black tails appeared, and a dark aura began to surround him.
His guardian spirit, the black fox that had been embedded in a Grimm woman who eventually married an ancient hunter from the Winchester family, had passed this power to a special member of the family every five hundred years.
"You have a mission. If you keep ignoring it, your purpose in this world will be meaningless.
Ethan looked up, his gaze now darkened by the supernatural power that had been contained within his body. It shot out, causing the space around him to tremble.
"I, Ethan Winchester, will use my power as I see fit. No one will stand in my way." Ethan had recalled more things from his dream; his purpose, as his supernatural power indicated, was to exterminate all vampires.
He was sure he would do it, but he had a mission, one he had rejected for ten years but now saw as possible to create. "If I can tame the beasts to fight for humans, maybe humanity has a chance to survive."
Crack!
With those words, the entire illusion shattered, and Ethan found himself in the middle of nowhere, clutching his sword tightly. "Damn it, where am I?"
Rrrr!!!
At that moment, Ethan heard growls and turned to see a female coyote growling at him. "Calm down; I'm back to normal."
The female coyote didn’t approach Ethan immediately; she sensed a powerful predator she hadn’t noticed before, but when she saw he had returned to normal, she approached him.
Ethan sat down under a tree, looked at the coyote, and murmured, "This would be a good opportunity to kill me. I guess, in the end, we're not so different after all."
The female coyote came closer and eventually lay down near him, closing her eyes without paying much attention to his words.
Ethan's eyes glowed faintly with a dark hue as he murmured, "Coyote woman, no wonder you didn't enter the mansion that day. But why don’t you take human form instead of staying this way?"
He had no doubts; this coyote was a woman with that ability, something he had only discovered now that his dormant supernatural powers had gotten out of control.
"I'll figure it out later. It would be interesting to annoy my sister by marrying a female coyote." Ethan was well aware that this would throw his principles out the window, but it would also do the same to his sister's, and he wanted to see her reaction.
