Chapter 25 - The Visit to Peter Hale [2]
'Hurried footsteps, they're evacuating the hospital...' Peter lay on the gurney in the room where he had always been, at least that's what the nurses in this hospital believed.
What they didn't know was that Peter was a werewolf, currently pretending to be injured to stay hidden here, something Ethan had intuited from the beginning.
If Derek isn’t the newly turned alpha werewolf, then Peter is the one who claimed that right for only two reasons: to take revenge for what happened to his family or to start a new path.
'Someone is approaching, their footsteps are imperceptible, but their heartbeat gives them away...' Peter could sense that presence due to their heartbeat, which scared him greatly.
'Have the hunters found me? No, not the rudimentary ones, it must be a mistake...'
Ethan stopped in front of Peter's room door, looked inside through the transparent door, and knocked three times before deciding to open it.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
“Well, I’ll come in.” Ethan opened the door, found a seat to sit in, and placed his sword on his left leg.
He knew perfectly well that sitting would slow his speed in drawing a weapon and firing, which led him to the decision to use his sword if necessary.
Ethan, like a true gentleman, smiled and said, “You look worse than you should, what a disaster. You’re a werewolf and you appear to heal at the speed of a human.”
“My manners, how horrible, I’m so sorry. My name is Ethan Winchester. If you’re listening to me, I recommend you not be scared. I’m not here to kill you despite the many crimes you’ve committed.”
These crimes, from Peter’s understanding, would be death sentences. If he hasn’t been attacked yet, it’s only because Ethan has doubts or is simply waiting for the most opportune moment.
“What happened to your family was truly tragic. I understand you want revenge, but killing your niece and biting a young teenager isn’t the best of decisions.”
Ethan paused and said, “At least your niece was smart. Seeking revenge would only sentence the Hale family, knowing how nervous hunters are about supernatural families they’ve sworn peace with.”
“I’d like to kill you, but because you killed a supernatural being, I think it doesn’t fit into my code.” With these words, Ethan was merely testing Peter’s patience, who was likely listening to everything.
This werewolf reeks of blood. Surely now, he’s a werewolf who must be killed.
The disasters he would cause if left alive are significant, but now that Derek Hale has arrived in this town, it would be the best time to hand him over to him.
“Hunters would have been more concerned about the Hale family if they were immortal, but since you don’t have that gift, you would die quickly and forget your quest for revenge.”
Ethan looked towards the window and said, “I don’t blame them either. They aren’t your nannies, and since they died in a fire, no resources were spent on investigating. Demons, werewolves, and vampires cause more problems than you can imagine.”
“But I’m different. Maybe you haven’t heard of me, but you have heard of my family, so I promise you that revenge, and in return, you will give me your life.”
Peter felt a threat he couldn’t face, and before he could make a move, he felt the edge of a sword at his neck.
Ethan, who had stood up without Peter noticing, said, “By order of the hunter syndicate, which granted me the authority to dictate death over the life of any living being in this world, you are under arrest.”
Now that Derek has appeared, Ethan would make many adjustments he hadn’t planned.
Peter still made no move.
“Come on, be smart and let’s talk. If you tell me who did this to your family, then I’ll help you get revenge.” Ethan cared little about who the victim was here; there were only interests at play, and that was to have a werewolf in his personal group.
A pet...
“You talk a lot...” Peter, who opened his eyes, murmured softly, fixing his gaze on Ethan, who simply said, “You’re awake, that’s very fortunate.”
