Chapter 21: The Hale Family
"Are you sure about this information?" Ethan was drinking an energy drink specially designed for him while listening to Sebastián's words.
Sebastián was standing next to Ethan, looking at the newly obtained information. "From what we know, the woman who was killed in the forest is Laura Hale, who, until recently, we knew was the alpha of the Hale family after their destruction in this place."
"If she was killed a day ago, we know that whoever killed her is a rather powerful werewolf. Not one of the lowest classes among werewolves; experts say he would be in the middle tier."
Ethan nodded; this was not really concerning at all. "Do we have any data on this new alpha?"
"No, but there is a member of the Hale family in this city who, as far as we understand, has been in a coma all this time and has severe burn injuries."
"Probably he is in a prolonged coma to heal his wounds; the werewolves of his pack do not have good regeneration," Ethan murmured, looking at the photographs of each member of this family to whom the hunters owed favors.
The reality was this: the Hale family protected corporeal supernatural beings who wanted to live in harmony with humans. They were granted this jurisdiction if they didn't want to be killed.
Currently, the Light Association has many treaties with supernatural families. They take care of specific areas of their own species, and the hunters don't keep an eye on them.
The reality was that they couldn't exterminate them all; it would be complete chaos if that were the case. That's why there were also codes—the same codes that Ethan violated in his quest to quench his thirst for vengeance.
Ethan was not proud of it; he really wasn't. Even so, he knew that between the threads of life and death, at the end of that tunnel, only humans should remain alive.
He knew better than anyone that supernatural beings felt superior to humans, perhaps blessed by their great strength. That would put human interests in grave danger, and eventually, there would be a war. For that reason, supernatural families were well controlled.
Many die, and the families that once protected territories are now dead.
Ethan had come here with a secret mission: to secure the prison of supernatural beings that the Hale family protected. And if there is now chaos, he must take control seriously.
"How many members of the Hale family are still alive?"
Sebastián looked at the information and said, "Only three of them."
"Derek Hale, Cora Hale, and Peter Hale."
Ethan nodded, then said, "We will choose Derek Hale as the next alpha werewolf and demand that he take his place in this town."
"What if he refuses?"
"He can't refuse. Besides, we will visit the Argents who have entered my territory without even notifying me," Ethan said, a bit annoyed by all the things that were happening.
But if they had patience, Derek Hale would come to him as soon as he learned of his older sister's death. Like any brother, he would wish for the death of whoever took his sister from him, and only then would Ethan offer him a deal.
"Have the agents arrived?"
"Fifty elements, all well-trained. They are not veterans, but they understand orders." Sebastián knew things could get a bit bloody.
Ethan nodded, then said, "First, we will visit Peter Hale, then we'll go to the Argent family."
"I will prepare the men."
"Discreetly, I don't want to attract people's attention."
"Understood."
