Chapter 5: A Final Moment of Pain
"Mom, Dad, forgive me for arriving so late." Thorian looked at this desolate place and felt profound impotence. His gaze was only filled with pain; every time he thought about how these cheerful people had been murdered, he clenched his teeth with resentment.
This place was a cemetery, where the corpses of his parents lay, or what was left of them.
Thorian was currently in the furthest area of the North Pole, a sparsely inhabited zone where very few villages existed. They had made sure to be far enough away not to be found, yet it didn't seem to be sufficient.
Being in the place where water control was practiced, Thorian had the advantage due to the location, so for now, he would focus on training enough to hunt down all those men who attacked his village.
In this place where life for anyone who didn't practice water control was difficult, Thorian knew he could move from one place to another and attack when he deemed it the right moment.
"I will gather all the villages of this area when the time comes; we must unite completely and destroy all the colonies of those invading rats as soon as possible." Thorian's desire for destruction was so great that it couldn't be extinguished.
Even without the help of those people, Thorian would destroy each one of them alone; he wouldn't need anyone's help because he didn't expect those people to understand the genocide he was about to unleash.
"All will pay for what they have done to us; all will die in terrible suffering and know the true power of our people." Thorian said with an expression full of murderous thoughts that he would kill every man from the Fire Nation as they appeared before him.
Thorian stored all those feelings of anger because they would serve him when he took his revenge.
Carefully, he formed two empty graves with solid ice beneath his feet. When he finished what he came to do, he walked through the grounds of his destroyed village to see if there was anyone else alive, but since a month had passed, it would be impossible to find anyone alive.
Knowing that there was nothing to find in this place, he climbed onto Doki's back so he could take him to the nearest village. He remembered that a certain group of people had escaped, so he wondered if they could be in those other locations.
Feeling the cold air hitting his face, Thorian didn't flinch; his white hair fluttered in the wind, and his blue eyes visualized everything around him. In these last few days, for some strange reason, his body had grown a lot; he didn't know if it was due to that strange power he had received or something else, but it didn't bother him.
When he left the grounds of his village, it was also when the sun was slowly setting. This time, he had no choice but to stop to set up a shelter and eat some fish that he would grill this time.
"This will be where we spend the night." Thorian stopped at the top of a mountain, where he quickly manipulated the ice to create an ice cabin, where Doki entered to warm up.
Watching as this unexpected companion settled in, Thorian shook his head before walking towards the open sea and extending his hand, a powerful stream of ice cutting through the water.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
In an instant, a huge spear began to shrink, and Thorian saw two enormous fish that he had successfully hunted. He didn't know exactly where his power was being fed from, but as time passed, it grew stronger.
When he took one of the fish, he formed an ice blade and first cut its stomach. He needed to clean out all the insides of the fish so as not to consume the area where it stored its blood.
After finishing cleaning the interior, he began removing some parts of the exterior, and when he was finally ready, he returned to the interior of the ice cabin he had made large enough for himself and his mount to sleep in.
Oh! Oh! Oh!
Doki looked at the huge fish in Thorian's right hand, and his eyes began to shine with excitement. He had been with him for some time, so he knew perfectly well that he also got a share of every meal.
"Eat slowly; tomorrow we will have to move south where the members of my tribe were able to escape," Thorian said, sitting by a fire that he kept continuously manipulating to keep it from going out.
At that moment, with his right hand, he formed a needle thick enough to be able to roast the fish and stop eating raw meat, which was all he had been doing all this time.
Thorian had lost the taste of food a long time ago; it didn't taste like anything to him, and now this whim he was giving himself was only because he wanted to do something before going to sleep.
"Look, Mom, I'm eating properly even when you're not present," Thorian murmured as he chewed the warm meat, still devoid of flavor.
Roarrrr!!!
This peaceful place was not a bed of roses; there were predators at night that went out to hunt. Some came from the sea and others from their respective caves, but all were dangerous.
Thorian faintly heard a low growl coming from below the mountain, but he didn't care; he thought the beasts started to roam at night, just as his father had taught him.
"I should train my martial arts more if I want to improve," Thorian thought as he gave the rest of the roasted fish to Doki, who was pecking at his head to share his food.
Looking at the calm sky, Thorian felt strange. Where were his parents? What are they doing right now? He was alone now, having no one but himself and his desire to exact blood for blood, yet in the depths of his heart, he inexplicably felt alone.
As time passed, Thorian laid his body on Doki, who was sleeping; the warmth inside this cabin remained a bit higher, so he decided to extinguish the fire.
When Thorian was half asleep, he felt a familiar hand touch his sword, but he didn't want to turn around and wake up because he knew that whoever that hand belonged to wasn't really behind him.
"I must do it; I have to kill them all."
Once he fell asleep, Thorian didn't part from his sword, which was tied with a chain to his hand to prevent it from being stolen by strangers.
After a long time, Thorian woke up because he had heard a huge explosion, and when he thought it was just his imagination, a new explosion was heard in the distance.
Boom!
Standing up, Thorian left his cabin and looked into the distance as a faint black smoke spread thinly into the sky. When he recognized whose smoke it belonged to, his heart jumped several times, but he managed to control it, so taking his sword, he said, "The hunt has begun."
From this day forward, he wouldn't lament his loss but would drive it with the deaths of all those who would pay for their pain with their lives.
