Chapter 007: High School
"I suppose it's a cozy place. I wonder how many bears there are around here," Ethan mused, standing on the balcony of his mansion, looking out over the landscape beyond the trees.
There was nothing visible, but he knew this tranquil site should provide the peace he had been seeking.
A place where he could escape the constant killing of his daily life, at least for a while.
He wanted to live tranquil days, but he had become so obsessed with supernatural entities that it would be impossible to distance himself from them until the day he died. However, at least for a while, he would be just fine.
He knew that this town had a history of supernatural creatures before a treaty was signed with the Hale family of werewolves. Records indicated many supernatural entities were sealed somewhere in this town.
When the Hale family was destroyed, no one investigated the truth. It didn't matter because the war against dark entities was too great.
Exorcists bore the brunt of it, facing demons far more frequently and, worse, being unable to kill them.
That was why Ethan was grateful he wasn't part of the death squad. He didn't want to end up like that exorcist named Anton, who was practically forced to excel or face the extermination of the entire light association.
"On the brink of extermination, we will all die sooner or later." Ethan went to sleep, needing medication to fall asleep, but fortunately, he managed.
Just a few more drugs; at the end of the day, that's what formed his gloomy days.
Depression would kill hunters if it weren't this way. Not everyone had the brutal character development to kill left and right, dark entities with motives for revenge.
That's why good, non-addictive drugs have been developed. Ethan, like many other hunters, needed moments to forget and have pleasant dreams.
The next morning, Ethan dressed in a black suit, specially designed to be bulletproof, ensuring he could withstand numerous impacts with only the external sensation of pain.
"I don't know what time I'll be back, so I'd appreciate it if you could place the items arriving today in the storage room without touching anything." Ethan instructed Sebastian on how to handle some of the tools he had ordered.
He didn't expect to face anything extreme in this small town, but unexpected things always existed, so Ethan made sure to be ready.
He drove manually to the high school. From what he understood, the students were on vacation and would return in a few days, so a meeting was scheduled to get up to date with the new education forms.
When he arrived at the parking lot, he looked around and noticed only a few vehicles. "Well, it's not a bad place."
Ethan got out of the car, holding a guitar case containing most of his weapons, always by his side.
"Are you here to give singing lessons?"
When Ethan heard this, he looked at a man with a peculiar hairstyle. "Are you also a teacher?"
"Bobby Finstock, I'm the lacrosse team's coach. Also, I teach economics and physical education. I saw your file in the principal's office, so I recognized you."
Ethan nodded slightly and extended his hand to greet this somewhat strong-willed teacher. "I've always been interested in lacrosse. Would you invite me sometime?"
As they entered the school, Bobby said, "I have animals instead of players on the team. I'm sure you'd be very disappointed with the new players, who unfortunately are on the team."
"Any advice?" Ethan thought he would get along well with this man.
Bobby looked at Ethan and said, "Don't get involved with any of your students. You look young, so you'll probably have some trouble with that, but doing so means getting into problems you can't get out of."
"I don't like..."
But before Ethan could finish speaking, Bobby said, "Also, if you're going to teach history, you should know that students will fall asleep in your class. Bring something to make noise; you'll get everyone's attention that way."
"The important thing is to give them an image of toughness. They will understand you are in control from that point."
Ethan nodded and said, "Then I'll treat them like prison students."
"Wait, have you taught in prison?" Bobby stopped before entering the teachers' lounge.
"Only for a while. I'm like the psychologist everyone needed." Ethan entered the teachers' lounge without waiting for his colleague.
Bobby watched Ethan's back and said, "That's tough."
