Chapter 195: Devon Against Kim
"Is she?" Devon's gaze turned to the girl named Kim Crawford, remembering how not long ago she discovered that someone very precise about Kim considered her a target to beat in Karate. The whole story was impressive because another guy named Jack was also interested in defeating Dash after he lost to him in a very important tournament in Japan.
But at this moment, she knew perfectly well that it wasn't the time to be distracted. She soon focused her attention on Dash, who was presenting strong arguments and seemed to have the support of the audience.
"I yield my remaining time." Having finished his words, Dash concluded his last response to an opposing argument and ended his time.
The jury nodded, and at that moment, it said, "Very good arguments. Now, please let the next contestants come forward."
Devon stood up, looked at Kim, who also stood up, and smiled slightly before walking to the microphone. As soon as she arrived, she looked at the judges and said in a clear tone, "Since technology began to gain strength, it is what facilitates our lives in society. In the last half century, technological advances have been so great that they have modified even our way of living, communicating, and relating, even allowing progress in essential fields such as education, science, or medicine."
"One of the main reasons why all of you should be in favor of technological advancement is the saving of work, time, and money. Technology allows us to perform many tasks much faster and better than before. Some tasks are performed directly by machines; humans only intervene in the process of analyzing data processed by computers, but even those jobs will change soon."
After saying this, Devon paused and pointed out, "In our case, we can say that technology has brought us great advantages for social development."
"In recent decades, technology has brought us incredible inventions, such as products and applications, that have changed the way we communicate. Mobile phones, Discord, or WhatsApp are clear examples of how it is now easier than ever to be connected over a distance quickly, easily, and cheaply."
"In this simple aspect, it is clear that technology facilitates daily life. An example could be quick access to information. The first of all the advantages of technology that we will mention is access to information. Thanks to technology, it is becoming faster and faster."
"This allows more people to have access to more data that can help them make better decisions. Also, through websites or devices, anyone can access any type of knowledge. This, combined with speed, is a valuable tool, especially in formative processes."
"Internet access and technological improvements, as we mentioned at the beginning, facilitate communication, shortening distances not only in personal but also in professional life, directly impacting the economy."
Looking at the audience and especially at Kim, Devon, with a deeper voice, said, "Many of us have tired lives, and sometimes we need something to entertain us. That's why, with technological improvements, this has changed."
"Since streaming emerged, thanks to technology, there has been much more interaction on social networks and in video games. It also allows those who were once content consumers to become creators, not only on platforms that serve to display content, but now everyone can also be their own means of communication."
After saying this, Devon pressed the button to give the floor to Kim, who immediately said, "You said that motorized jobs handled by machines and analyzed by humans will end. Do you mean that we will be left without any jobs?"
"The digital universe affects us all, whether personally or professionally. New technologies and their applications have evolved at lightning speed. They have allowed progress in crucial fields such as education, science, or medicine. They have come into our lives to solve many problems but also to create others."
Kim removed the blonde hair covering her forehead and said, "It is evident that machines and robots are increasingly replacing the human hand with the negative consequences that entails. As technology advances, human labor is undervalued."
"This year, we began to realize what artificial intelligence tools can mean in replacing jobs with artificial intelligence. The results achieved with artificial intelligence models are surprising—a creative tool that provides solutions to complex problems in seconds in practically any discipline."
Taking a strategic pause, Kim looked at Devon and said, "This misuse and excessive use of technology are causing significant health problems such as addiction, depression, social isolation, anxiety, hearing damage, or eye diseases."
"With this ease, there will be less and less human interaction. With the arrival of search engines like Google or WhatsApp, interpersonal communication is fading. We hardly ask anything of the person next to us; that needs to change, and we need to start working on measures to solve it." Kim said, and after that, she pressed the button to give the floor to Devon.
Devon gripped the podium tightly and said, "Who the hell cares if people talk less to each other?" Dash, who was sitting, quickly touched his forehead, knowing that Devon had reached the point of internal explosion.
