Chapter 48: A New Exorcism
Looking at this ancient-looking church, Esquibel walked cautiously until a gun was pointed at his head, and Rafael, who emerged from the shadows, asked, "Who are you to not fill this sacred place with your blood right now?"
"Am I in the right place?" Esquibel, who asked this question, heard in the distance a faint sound of footsteps, and in the dim light of the candles, he saw a man wearing a robe similar to his but very different in many aspects. For some reason, when he saw this man, Esquibel felt as if he were looking at a beast showing its teeth and claws, and his whole body tensed instantly.
Rafael, who knew they could be attacked by some kind of enemy now that they had gotten involved with the mafia, was much more alert. So, while an unknown person enters this place mysteriously, he will decide in a short period whether to confront him directly or not.
"We haven't received any messages about your incorporation. Who are you?" Rafael asked as he looked around, as if fearing that someone would see him.
"I am Priest Thomas Esquibel. Right now, you should know who I am because my superior should have called you. You can check this with your superior," said Thomas with a somewhat pale look. He knew who he would be dealing with, but he didn't know how aggressive they were.
When Anton reached a moderate distance, he saw the man he had to supervise and observed him for a few minutes, as if he wanted to know what kind of man he was.
It must be known that the decision to become a priest can be motivated by a deep spiritual calling and the desire to serve God and the community. Some men feel an internal calling, a dedication to religious life, and the desire to guide others in their faith.
In addition, some individuals may choose the priesthood in response to a sense of duty or commitment to their community and the pursuit of contributing to the spiritual well-being of others. Motivation can arise from a desire to provide guidance, support, and leadership in the religious realm.
These two motivations—spiritual vocation and community commitment—often intertwine in the choice to become a priest, demonstrating a combination of service to God and others in religious life.
"When we mock the devil and tell ourselves he doesn't exist, that's when he's happiest," said Anton as he looked at Rafael, giving him a reassuring look.
"Are you Priest Anton?"
"Excuse me for the rudeness with which we received you; lately, we've been very nervous about many things that have happened to us." Anton smiled slightly as he approached the young man in front of him.
Esquibel was stunned to see the rumored priest, who had approached him in an instant, only to see him even closer and notice all that seriousness on his face.
"Has it been a long journey?"
"Yes..."
When visiting this dilapidated church, Esquibel scratched his head. Compared to the churches he had seen before, this place could be described as ancient. He couldn't understand why the rumored priest of the ShadowBane family wasn't in a better place.
As his thoughts became more divergent, Esquibel suddenly straightened up and looked at the backpack Anton was carrying. So, he straightened up and said, "Priest Anton, my name is Thomas Esquibel."
"It seems you know me; let's go."
Interrupting his introduction, Anton took his backpack and walked past the trainee priest with an indifferent expression.
"It seems you are about to graduate as a priest exorcist, a very important step if you ask me."
"Haha, you don't have to mention it; I've read about many exorcisms, and the family to which I belong has defeated them all," said Thomas with a smile.
Looking around before heading to his car, Anton looked at Thomas and said, "Priest Esquibel, I understand deeply that you must be very nervous because this is your first job as a Priest Exorcist, but you have nothing to worry about because I will be by your side at all times."
Thomas smiled and said, "Not everyone is fortunate to have a ShadowBane supervising a new exorcist. Has your life been as the rumors say?"
"Much worse," said Anton as he got into the car. "I understand that you are not prepared to be a field exorcist, so I won't demand too much from you in this test."
"Thank you very much, Priest Anton."
In this world of the supernatural, there are two facets of exorcists: those who face demonic possession in human beings and those who venture to deal with corporeal entities, such as werewolves, vampires, or fully embodied demons.
Traditional exorcists, focused on demonic possessions, use sacred rituals and prayers to expel the evil that has taken residence in a human body. Their approach is based on spiritual confrontation and the purification of the affected individual.
On the other hand, exorcists who deal with corporeal beings, such as werewolves, adopt a more physical and tactical approach. They use amulets, special weapons, and knowledge about the weaknesses of these creatures to combat and contain the threat they pose, often facing a more tangible and direct conflict.
Although both share the title of "exorcist," their methods and skills diverge depending on the nature of the threats they face, demonstrating that the fight against the supernatural can manifest in various ways.
But Anton, belonging to the Association of Light and not affiliated with the Vatican, was trained in both aspects. In fact, all the exorcists in this organization were trained for the worst.
Still, in this case, Thomas Esquibel was an exorcist who had been trained by the Vatican and was solely focused on the spiritual.
"No matter how you feel, you will be the main exorcist, so take control. I will analyze how you develop and see if you are ready or not," said Anton as he started the car and headed in the direction where they would work.
