35 - Return to the cave
The wind howled across the barren expanse of the Arctic tundra. Snow blew in vicious spirals, lashing the landscape and stinging any exposed skin. But in the midst of this desolate and icy wasteland, a battle had come to an end.
The temperature had dropped drastically and the cold wind blew relentlessly. The snow sparkled in the moonlight, casting a mysterious glow over the land. It was so quiet that one could hear the sound of their own heartbeat.
As the night wore on, the only sounds that could be heard were the occasional howls of wolves and the whisper of the snow as Arctic foxes searched for food.
Suddenly, there was a deafening roar in the distance and the ground shook. It was a powerful Arctic wolf, lurking in search of food. Every living creature fled as fast as they could, hoping to avoid the enormous predator that had just had a confrontation with a brown bear.
...
It wasn't long after the successful killing of the female brown bear. Luke had to admit that this battle was admirable, and if his enemy were in optimal condition, the battle would have taken a completely different course.
But there is no honor when it comes to survival, he knows he doesn't need to show anything to the enemy. Therefore, when only survival is considered, nothing else makes sense in this place so forgotten by God.
In a short time, Luke should have between six to seven kilograms of freshly hunted prey meat and after that he stopped.
The six to seven kilograms of meat from the female brown bear, still under the effect of the potion, easily granted him more than 180 evolutionary points.
This is equivalent to the evolutionary value obtained in the previous month, which generates a powerful doubt if he really was doing things right.
After Luke finished eating, a pair of scarlet wolf eyes scanned the surrounding area.
After a few minutes, his acute senses did not give him any kind of alert indicating something abnormal, so with the help of two bushes, he prepared to drag the bear back to the cave.
This female brown bear weighs no more than 170 kilograms, so it wouldn't be too difficult to drag it back to the cave.
Luke believes that with the food stored in the cave, it is more than enough for him and his pack to eat for a month or two depending on the rate of consumption.
Before leaving, Luke also entered the brown bear's cave.
The brown bear's cave is not far from where he had hunted his prey. As he did, he discovered that there was a mess that was easy to detect at first glance.
Some skeletons of other animals could also be seen.
Luke knew that the brown bear cub that had been left in the cave was not there, and the supposed brown bear cubs that were supposed to appear had also disappeared.
"Huh? Could it be that other predators have been here while the bear from this cave was away?"
Upon realizing that there were no puppies, Luke felt a bit confused. He had never intended to harm the puppies from the beginning, but it was still really unsettling.
He didn't give it much thought and quickly turned around.
He began to drag the body of the female brown bear back to her cave.
Along the way, there were many hungry predators crawling on the snow, chasing the scent of blood.
And as the strong smell of blood emanated from the female brown bear's corpse, those predators with a keen sense of smell hesitated.
After all, brown bears are not so easily provoked, let alone those that can kill them.
One male lynx, who was crazily hungry, had a fierce light in his eyes. Originally, he wanted to rely on his proud speed to test the enemy.
But when it comes to confirming speeds, Luke is far ahead of any predator.
Even with some wounds on his body now, the speed of 11p is still beyond the lynx's imagination.
With a single blow, Luke forcefully hit the not-so-big body of the lynx and sent it flying more than ten meters away.
This fierce blow broke several bones in the lynx's body.
The intense pain made it howl on the ice and snow.
But Luke decided not to kill it directly because sometimes howling and more blood can attract other predators who are looking for food.
Therefore, waiting for other predators to come out, Luke made sure to hunt them all.
Many predators came out as many stopped silently lurking, the fierceness in their eyes also gradually retreated, on the contrary, there was a look of fear in those eyes.
The strong are respected!
As it is in nature, there are only a few basic rules here.
The weak shall fall, and the laws of evolution will move forward. There is no other end but to survive, and the only basic functions are to kill, eat, and sleep.
After Luke left, all the predators looked at the injured lynx with ferocious eyes.
Soon, they swarmed against that easy prey.
The lynx's cry only lasted a moment and then disappeared completely.
And a few seconds later, Luke returned and managed to kill several larger predators.
After that little trap, he dragged the female brown bear's body back to the cave.
Auuuu!
The deep and familiar howl alerted the wolves in the cave.
After a few seconds, Luke, who was dragging the bear, thought only of having a blanket, saw Ardad with his gray hair fluttering in the cold wind, quickly coming out of the cave.
His gaze lowered, and those bright eyes of crimson light gave him much excitement, quickly spotting the leader of the pack.
He immediately ran fast and ran towards Luke.
Auuu! Auuu!
As he ran, he howled in a very peculiar way.
But if there was one thing Luke was sure of, it was that there was an unprecedented happiness in that howl.
...
36 - Baxter's intentions
When Luke arrived at the Baxter cave, the dog was very excited and jumped around him while wagging his tail.
Immediately after, he saw the female brown bear behind him. Although the female brown bear is dead, there is still some smell left.
And as soon as Baxter perceived that smell, all his hair stood on end. After all, he has often gone hunting with Luke and still remembers that first impression with a brown bear.
It is true that after that he had encountered some brown bears, and he knows how powerful they are.
But soon, it was discovered that the brown bear was dead.
"Woof!" Baxter barked like a dog. Although in his subconscious, Luke has always been brave and invincible, he was not yet prepared to know that someone like his boss could hunt brown bears.
"Moon Goddess!"
What does bear meat taste like? This made Baxter's eyes fill with stars of admiration. And just when he was about to lick Luke's fur, he received a kick that sent him flying several meters.
Luke gave him a small kick to indicate that if he wasn't interested in helping, he should not get in the way, and then dragged the corpse of the female brown bear inside the cave.
Luke had a very intense fight with the brown bear, and although it may not seem like it, he also suffered very deep wounds. Under the piercing pain of the injury, it was really difficult to drag such a heavy bear to the top of the mountain alone.
After Baxter recovered from the kick, he quickly wagged his tail and hurried to help drag the brown bear. When the heavy grayish corpse appeared in the cave, the other members of the pack were very surprised.
Ondina, Anie, and Ardad had never seen a brown bear before. In a short time, under Luke's supervision, his sister Ondina and Ardad surrounded the corpse of the female brown bear, sniffing the huge motionless body. But Anie discovered with her observant eyes the wounds on Luke's body.
When she arrived by Luke's side to help him lick the blood off his beautiful white fur, she was careful with each of the wounds and was very concerned about the leader's condition.
This concern is not surprising, after all, when a wolf is seriously injured, they usually die within hours or days. But she believed that with her saliva she could help in some way with Luke's wounds, as it is known that this gesture is based on the healing properties of saliva, as well as the self-calming actions of licking oneself.
Licking wounds is at least an instinctive response, perfected by natural selection, that can relieve irritation and pain and can even speed up recovery. So after being injured, not only wolves but any kind of animal often licks their wounds.
Originally, Luke wanted to refuse. After all, eventually his passive healing talent, which is obviously much more useful than wolf saliva, would end up healing his wounds. But looking at Anie's worried eyes, he did nothing.
"Grr!" Luke soon left a reminder to Baxter with a growl, indicating that he should be alert.
"Awoooo!" Baxter knew that Luke was telling him, so he obediently returned to the entrance of the cave to keep watch.
Although Baxter's behavior has taken a 360-degree turn from that of a lone wolf to what it is now, he remains one of the strongest wolves in the pack and someone who could always be trusted with anything.
After Anie helped Luke lick his wounds for a while, Luke told her to take her sister to eat.
After seeing that there was nothing else to worry about, he returned to his usual spot and walked towards the back of the cave where there was a kind of second cave that was much darker and more hidden than the rest.
Luke had been digging in this cave for a long time and his space had multiplied, and as planned, he would continue to do so until the place was much larger.
He usually didn't stay in this type of cave since he normally had to guard the cave entrance, but this time the battle between him and the female brown bear required a lot of energy and physical strength.
So, relying on Baxter who was a very strong wolf, he decided to take his well-deserved rest.
Not long after lying down, Luke entered a deep sleep.
During this time, there was nothing more to say.
...
The night seemed to go on forever, but finally, the first signs of dawn appeared in the sky and darkness began to slowly recede.
After a long few hours of sleep, it was really not known whether it was night or day with the persistent effect of the Polar night.
If Luke didn't have a proper sense of time before, now that was a much more serious problem.
Every day he wakes up, it's completely dark.
When Luke woke up, he felt some pain all over his body.
It can be seen that the injuries suffered in the fight with the female brown bear were still serious.
Yesterday he didn't feel any intense pain, probably because his nerves were too tense and suppressed the pain after the battle.
But now the pain in his body is bearable.
And under the effect of the healing talent, the wound that had already stopped bleeding also formed a scab.
Although the passive healing talent is really impressive, it is not at all something magical where his external wounds are healed visibly. It is also true that the wounds on Luke's body this time were much deeper, after all, it was a bear claw that had injured him.
But now the injury is slowly recovering.
Auuu!
After Luke stood up and moved his body, he let out a low howl and called Baxter and went out of the cave to patrol.
Baxter also noticed the chief's injury,
He also stepped forward, wanting to lick the chief's wound.
But Luke stopped him.
After all, the wound had formed a scab and he didn't want Baxter, a foolish wolf with dog hormones and cat behavior, to lick his wound.
