24 - The cave
The discovered cave is on a high mountain. A few weeks ago Luke found it, but wanting to look for other options he waited a while longer.
But now he could no longer wait, he needed to move and find a place where he would not disturb anyone. If not, something will most likely happen that he can't control within the pack he now lives in.
The path to the cave is a bit steep and difficult for ordinary hunters to climb.
It even seemed a bit difficult for Baxter to climb it alone, and with an Arctic Reindeer it is much more difficult.
So in the end it was Luke who struggled up the Arctic Reindeer carcass to the cave.
At first Luke was very disoriented about the weather and the seasons, but now that he is out and can explore all the mysteries of this huge white world by himself, he knows that the Arctic cold season and the Polar night is coming, now many animals have migrated to warmer areas.
So, that means that prey will become very scarce and it is necessary to store some food in the cave to invent.
The current temperature is normally below ten degrees below zero. But the lowest recorded temperature of all time is 93.2 ° C. This place is by far the coldest place on the planet.
Such a temperature if it were to happen would be inside a much more powerful freezer naturally, and stored food does not deteriorate even if it is stored.
After entering the new cave, Luke tapped the blood from the corpse of the Arctic Reindeer and sucked the blood.
Blood can quench thirst, plus it is something nutritious that would benefit him a lot.
He was now a wolf, so the taste of the blood was not bad at all, on the contrary, its thick taste was sweet and fresh.
If you compare them with some good drinks in his previous life, without considering water the Arctic Reindeer's blood is better.
Of course, it is also related to the different taste buds that wolves have compared to humans.
Never before had Luke hunted an Arctic Reindeer where every part of its body was fresh, so now that he has the depth he drank that blood.
Then after putting the Arctic Reindeer deeper he instructed Baxter to drink blood and if he was hungry he would eat.
Baxter, who was watching the view at the entrance to the cave, approached excitedly.
Without looking at Luke, he began to drink blood as did his leader.
Luke then took a closer look at the cave, looking first at the entrance and appreciating the great scenery this place could offer him in the mornings.
If he considered it, the location of this cave was too good.
He had been considering all the safety factors that his new home needed, and that included that it could not be visited by predators. The mountain was very steep and its safety factor was very high.
The cave is also very spacious.
It is several times larger than the cave where his wolf parents live.
If he calculates it, this cave can accommodate more than a dozen adult wolves without any problem, and the place would be more than enough.
Therefore, seeing many of the things Luke could do in this place, he decided that this place would be where he would live in the future.
After leaving Baxter in the cave, he decided to go out to walk around and find out that no predators had followed them to this place.
After finding nothing special, he returned again.
By this time, Baxter had stopped drinking blood. But this time, he did not eat any of the Arctic Reindeer as he had eaten enough on the way to this place, and he was full.
"Auuuu!" Baxter howled depressedly. He had been thinking about the Lemmings and Arctic rabbits they had buried along the way; he had planned to give those prey to the little cubs in the cave.
"Rrrr."
After Baxter howled, Luke didn't want to waste any more time so they came down the mountain. Now they were about to return to the cave at a much faster speed.
On the way, some Lemmings buried by Baxter and rabbits were naturally unearthed.
There are about seven Lemmings and two adult rabbits, Baxter only took four and left the rest for Luke to take back to the cave.
As soon as Luke returned to the cave, he looked at his father who was staring at him and also discovered that the herd had gone out to hunt and returned.
But in the cave, morale was mediocre.
After Luke returned, his pack's dominant wolf father stared at him and seemed to be ready for something.
A pair of piercing eyes looked at Luke and Baxter.
Fortunately, this time, the two pups returned with some Lemmings.
This allowed the dignity of the dominant wolf in the pack to finally be preserved.
Otherwise, a pack in the eyes of the wolves where the union is born is not so important. If suddenly the food brought to the cave by a pack of adult wolves is not as good as that of the pups, there will be a lot of conflicts of thoughts.
This would be really unacceptable.
And it will also damage the prestige among the wolves a lot.
"Auuu!"
At this moment, seeing his son and Baxter arrive at the cave, considering what they eat, Luke's father threw an adult arctic rabbit at him.
This was specially reserved for the two of them by the father wolf.
It's just that the carcass of this arctic rabbit weighed only about six pounds, and with his usual appetite, Baxter was able to finish it all by himself.
Not to mention Luke, who can actually eat a lot more meat.
So the little gray wolf shook his head slightly, looking down at the dead arctic hare.
But the orders of the dominant wolf is prestigious, and wolves pin their role within the pack, so no one objected.
"Au!"
Luke howled to his father to express his joy.
On the other hand, his mother came over to lick his fur affectionately. She didn't consider her son's body large, so her son is still a puppy.
But as one of the highest ranking wolves in the pack, she had noticed the awkwardness between her husband and son.
But among wolves, strength is the most respected and if you really want to break the rules, she has nothing to do.
Who would have thought that her son would grow up so fast and that his strength was comparable or even surpassed by the strongest of the normal adult wolves.
But all Luke's mother wanted was to live in harmony.
"Au!"
Luke responded warmly to his mother's affection.
After his father left him the arctic rabbit, he returned to his state of distant observation. Seeing that no one had followed his son, he went back to sleep.
On this day, the large prey encountered are all in groups and many prey have migrated elsewhere.
Therefore, wolves can only hunt and kill in groups with much more effort. But even so, wolves love to hunt prey that does not cost them a lot of work.
Arctic rabbits have keen hearing and speed is fast.
Each wolf in the wolf pack consumed a lot of energy before hunting and killing seven of them.
Eight adult wolves ate five adult Arctic rabbits along with their pups. So Luke took into account that his father would save food for him, something he would never forget.
Baxter has also given the Lemming in the mouth to the girl wolf, and her little pillow, the gray wolf.
As puppies, they hardly ever left the cave.
Naturally, they have never eaten lemmings.
To them it felt very curious and fresh.
In the end, it was Baxter who gutted the lemming and threw it to the cubs.
After seeing this, the gray wolf was very excited.
Although Baxter often bullies the little gray wolf, he still cares about this wolf sleeping pillow.
Luke soon got to some puppies, and since he wasn't that hungry he handed them the Lemmings.
Under the effect of the potions, many of the pups have increased their hunger by several notches. In a little over half a day, the pups were hungry once again.
...
Time passed, and a few more days passed.
In the circumstances that Luke gave some pups a little way to evolve, their sister, the wolf girl finally had some changes.
In general, their bodies grew much faster and went up to level 3. The wolf girl's hair is softer and smoother, and the ears have become a little pointed.
As for Baxter, Luke believed that in a short time he would reach level 4.
