Chapter 57 - Luke is bored
As time passed, Luke had eaten enough to earn a great amount of evolutionary points, which brought him closer to leveling up. This made Luke very happy, as he believed that leveling up was only a matter of time and patience. However, as it became evident, the value of evolutionary points obtained from this type of meat had also decreased, which meant it would no longer be of much help to Luke if he wanted to continue evolving.
In any case, Luke did not eat much more after the evolutionary points were no longer satisfactory, so he stopped eating. After finishing, he walked to the cave entrance and started to guard alongside Anie.
The wolves that had learned to eat on time did so after Luke, and the sounds of eating echoed through the cave.
Luke now took care of all the wolves' food, but when they grew up, they would be the ones going for the food. Looking at these future wolves stronger than average, he thought, "Eat until you are full, you must be strong so that you can grow as soon as possible."
After waking them up, everyone came to eat. It is true that there are new changes every day, such as everyone now being able to eat even frozen meat, something they could not do before. Without needing help as they did before, both Ondina, Anie, and Ardad can now eat frozen meat, but it is also true that the need for food increases.
However, wolves do not need to eat every day. In situations where food is scarce, wolves can go without eating for a long time, which is why sometimes their parents did not eat. But that did not stop them from losing weight or strength. Under the polar night, many lose their lives, either in wolf packs or fighting against other predators.
They did not waste much time eating, and after eating what was necessary, they started to do their own things. Ondina started a new fight with Ardad just to prove that she had not won by luck last time.
But obviously, Ardad was afraid of this crazy wolf girl and ran around the cave howling, avoiding any kind of confrontation. This made Ondina very angry as she only wanted to practice. But this was only for a few minutes, as Ardad still wanted to know if Ondina's strength was greater than his.
However, at that moment, a huge figure stood in the middle of the cave and winked at the two wolves, indicating that he would attack them together.
Luke, who was watching all this from the side, noticed that Baxter's body was really big. "Nothing like a distorted documentary of a wolf pack. Now that I think about it, my pack would be a perfect story for a TV program..."
Luke continued to watch all this with boredom. There was really nothing fun to do every day, and his human mind from his previous life still craved stimulation that he could not satisfy. Therefore, seeing this amusing scene, he thought, "Baxter's strength is too great, and there is no comparison to Ondina or Ardad..."
Since Baxter started hanging out with Luke, he had stopped playing these kinds of games, so some were interested in the result of this little training. When Baxter gave a signal, Ondina was not going to give up easily, so after growling, she attacked her rival.
During this confrontation, Luke never feared that Baxter would exceed his strength, as he had trained him himself and taught him long ago not to abuse Ardad.
But Luke was surprised because Ondina's fighting skills are really great.
Her attacks are very thoughtful and cautious, as if she measures the consequences before taking a single step.
But the gap in strength between the two sides is too great after all, and there is no evaluation term between technique against strength when the strength is so superior.
Even though Ondina faced Baxter head-on, looking for any possible opportunity or ways, whether attacking from below or above, it was even easyfor Baxter, who was just standing.
Baxter now felt like a mini boss within the pack, so he stretched out his paw and pushed Ondina back and forth.
Especially for Ondina, Baxter has a lot of affection and is considerate in all his attacks. So he simply blocked Ondina's attacks, but never counterattacked.
Ondina couldn't make Baxter defend seriously in any of her attacks. After Ardad joined the fight, the two wolves trained Baxter.
But Baxter's strength is too great, so even if both attack with strength and intention to harm, he can suppress those attacks with force.
And Luke, who was watching this, turned his head slightly towards Anie, who seemed to be the most normal of the group.
"Well, at least someone's calm..."
...
In this way, three to four days had passed according to Luke's calculations.
During that time, the cold wind and snow that had been somewhat troublesome to move around had soaked in a bit.
This time Luke left the cave in the company of Baxter. While they looked for nearby prey, he was exploring his territory in search of those brown bears in the area where his father lived.
He wanted to find out where those abusive bears were.
This time the surroundings were very calm.
In this very calm environment, a pair of scarlet eyes scanned the surroundings, leading the way forward while other pairs of eyes looked back.
The first thing Luke focused on was finding a place where he had been before, and that was the place where his father and his pack had faced off.
After an hour of searching, he determined the exact location of a brown bear.
Surprisingly, this pit is a deaf female bear but she was not pregnant, and apparently had stocked up on food before the polar night.
He was able to determine this because that deaf female bear had a robust body and there were no changes in weight loss due to lack of food.
After the female brown bear walked out of the cave, she returned to her own cave and continued to spend the polar night in hibernation.
The location of the cave is also very hidden, covered by many piles of ice and snow along with green branches.
But this hiding place is not something that Luke can overlook, and after identifying that female brown bear, he turned around.
This brown bear was not the one who had a conflict with the wolf pack that their parents belonged to.
But this is not entirely bad since this female brown bear is not in the close range of the cave where the wolf pack sleeps and the search range should not deviate to this place.
On the other hand, the female brown bear had no wounds at all.
The wolf pack led by his father had eight adult wolves who were very strong. They hunt together, that is a pack to be reckoned with.
After all, the staggered tactics of the wolf pack are not simply face-to-face attacks.
One wolf can attack, entangle, dodge, and many other things...
As long as the enemy is not too strong, they will definitely leave scars under the endless rounds of attack and energy consumption.
Therefore, that brown bear that the pack led by his father faced should have exposed wounds and be easy to identify.,,,
Chapter 58 - Lone Wolf
Luke was too restless since he saw the wounds on the adult wolves in his parents' pack, so he thought over and over that he would take charge before that brown bear found the wolves' den.
It should be noted that bloodstains can remain in the cave for a long time, as the blood from many wolves' open wounds would attract predators outside.
After confirming that this female brown bear was not a threat, Luke and Baxter left these places in search of new brown bears.
There was something that was troubling Luke, and that was the number of brown bears. They are characterized by invading wolf pack territories, causing the pack to suffer a huge loss of prey. With this, there are only two possibilities: ignore the brown bear and resist until it leaves or retreat from this place.
Of course, there had never been the possibility of confronting a brown bear. The consequences could be seen in his former pack about that. On the way, his priority was also to find prey.
Unfortunately, after such bad weather, very few prey dared to come out.
In the direction Luke was walking, there were no signs of large life.
But Baxter still caught some Lemmings from an overly exposed burrow.
This food could be good for anyone, but for someone like Luke, it would be insignificant, so he decided to let Baxter eat his prey.
Baxter knew that Luke was not interested in these small Lemmings, so it didn't take him long to finish eating.
Meanwhile, Luke looked around, scanning for any predator that might want to ambush them. Although nowadays, there are very few prey that can surprise him.
After Baxter finished eating, Luke knew that if it weren't for him, this companion would have ended up being a lone wolf.
In nature, a lone wolf is not really as fierce as one imagines. It is true that these types of wolves survive alone and hunt alone, but if you think about it, it is only a lonely destiny.
All the wolves who take that path end up in the worst ways. If those lone wolves are not the strongest, they typically don't last long in such a complicated life.
Luke saw that future in Baxter. In the first few months when he arrived in this world, this little lone wolf was really alone.
Both were small and weak back then, but now they could even be the strongest duo in the Arctic continent. It is true that Luke doesn't allow Baxter to get into risky situations, and that's only because he doesn't have the skills to recover from a serious injury.
On the way, Luke sensed a strong scent of blood and following that smell, they found a wounded wolf.
After seeing the state of that wolf, even in his weakened state, he showed fierce eyes when he saw Luke and Baxter standing in the distance, and he got up and was ready to fight if these two wolves attacked him.
Rrrr!
It could be seen that this wolf was old and very experienced. He perfectly understood the current nature and even on his deathbed, there was no room to bow his head and humble himself.
In this world, if you want to survive, you must show the fierceness and the strongest instinct of a predator.
You have to show everyone how strong you are, only then will you never be underestimated. And although Luke would not avoid a provocation like this, he was not interested right now.
His crimson eyes looked at this weak wolf, but he never showed any interest in harming him, which calmed the wolf down.
The wolf lay down slowly and licked all the horrific wounds on his abdomen. The largest wound was deep and gave the impression that his stomach was completely open.
Luke didn't know if this wolf could live or not, and he regretted that his healing ability did not allow him to heal others. Now that he thinks about it, maybe improving his ability could have other effects like healing others, although it is certainly very unlikely.
But unbeknownst to Luke, those wounds on the lonely wolf were not caused by other predators but by its own parents and old pack.
Under the polar night, everyone fights for the little food they have, and it's easy to go crazy when everyone is extremely hungry.
In extreme hunger, succumbing to the instinct of a beast, everyone can make mistakes.
But nobody wants to be eaten, everyone wants to live. In the end, there is only one way, to devour or to flee to avoid being devoured.
In this way, many creatures embark on their solitary journey, distrusting anything around them.
But in this place, especially in this type of climate, weakness is felt in the bones of those who do not eat well.
"What a disgrace..." This life has no comparison to that of humans, who mostly enjoy food to the point of exceeding what they require as living organisms.
Any human has the possibility of finding food, whether in humanitarian communities, government aid centers, among many other things. However, that did not exist in the wild.
Even if he wants to help that wolf now, Luke knows that the chances of that wounded wolf trusting him are as tiny as atoms.
On the other hand, the wolf was waiting to regain some strength, but as this white world is so big and dangerous, he did not know the dangers that were approaching.
An equally hungry lynx crawled among the bushes, getting closer and closer to the wounded wolf.
Although the lynx was also very weak, it had no wounds on its body. Its condition is obviously much better than this little wolf.
So a battle soon broke out where the wolf had the disadvantage of many factors, leaving it unknown if he won or lost against his predator.
...
At this moment, Luke and Baxter, who had left this place, naturally did not know what was happening behind them.
But even if they knew, Luke knew that fights between predators were not at all good to get involved in.
Who can assure him that those predators wouldn't turn around and fight him? Besides, he was now looking for large compresses and the location of the Brown bear with whom his father's pack fought.
In a short time, he finally found the specific location where those Brown bears were eating. It was easy to see that these Brown bears were extremely strong.
Their bodies were then in very good health without any signs of malnutrition and emanated an oppressive arrogance exclusive to the confidence that only bears can have in this type of place.
One of the Brown bears was lying near the cave, looking for moss and insects to eat.
This Brown bear was familiar, Luke remembers seeing it when he was younger and was with Baxter. It was also the first Brown bear he found in this place.
Luke didn't know why, but this brown bear seemed to be more gentle, only concerned with feeding on some branches, moss, and insects to replenish its energy. Therefore, Luke didn't pay attention to it since it wasn't his target. As for the other brown bear, he had been observing it for a while.
This brown bear was even stronger, reaching level 12. In the huge body of the bear, there were many wounds and scratches left by bites. But with the strong defense characteristic of a brown bear, these wounds were only like scratches. Therefore, this little damage is not harmful to him at all.
Now, this brown bear is biting a lynx that it may have recently hunted. Around the brown bear's den, there is also the skeleton of an arctic wolf that it had eaten, leaving only some muscles exposed.
Looking up to this point, he supposed that this brown bear was the one he was looking for. Considering the location, it was really close to where his father's den was. Both sides intend to fill their stomachs, and there will definitely be a fierce hunt and fight against this brown bear.
Luke's eyes looked at this brown bear, thinking about what he would do next. Although he had found him, this brown bear was very strong. But it was frantically hunting animals in this area to replenish energy and satisfy its appetite.
This brown bear has been on the move for a long time. Whether it is the state or the growing unrestrained momentum of its huge body, they are all at their peak. But Luke did not move hastily. The fact that he was thinking did not mean he would attack.
Suddenly, the brown bear sensed a very sensitive smell. Immediately after, it raised its huge head abruptly and looked towards Luke, who was standing on the snowy slope.
I don't know if it was because of the brutal fight with the wolves some time ago or for some other reason, but this brown bear apparently has a deep hatred for arctic wolves. After seeing Luke, the bear roared.
"Rrrr!"
The bear's dull roar echoed around the surroundings, shaking the icy and snowy trees! It even threw the half-eaten lynx corpse in its claws to the side. A pair of bear eyes looked at Luke with extreme madness!
Seeing this, Luke didn't quite understand the behavior of this brown bear, but he wasn't afraid in the least. On the contrary, a touch of coldness shone in his crimson eyes.
"Rrrr!" With a powerful roar worthy of a unique predator, Luke was filled with fury at the provocation of this brown bear. He wanted to kill it a few days after reaching level 7, but now he wanted to see how far his strength could influence this bear.
"Rrr!" Luke looked at Baxter and gestured for him to retreat to a safe distance, knowing that he can escape safely even if he can't beat this brown bear. "Since you are a threat, you will become my way to level 7..."
