Hey Mike! The fact that NOBODY sees any of these guys go in is the key. He is a thrill killer, opportunistic, and he has been lucky thus far as the authorities believe the deaths are not related. So nobody is looking for him and nobody knows to be careful in these areas. And why has it taken so many deaths for Austin to just NOW decide to place safety railings and lighting. Stupid.

I am the general manager of a bar on 6th street in Austin. The funny thing about those test strips the city handed out, if you read the box it clearly states they only test for ketamine and Ghb not rohypnol or even benzodiazepines. I can understand Ghb but ketamine wouldn’t even make my top 10 list of drugs I would use if I was trying to incapacitate someone and rob/kill them. Maybe im wildly out of the loop but the whole thing just reeks of incompetence to me.

In addition to it being close to an area where people are intoxicated, Id also be curious to see statistics on the rate of non-swimmers in that area. Land locked areas, or lower income areas can lead to higher rates of drownings due to lack of experience in water or access to swimming lessons etc.
