I am incredibly curious as to what she's been hiding from them, as one wouldn't just up and leave without significant reasoning, not to mention refusing to return, even temporarily, when hearing a loved one is about to pass.

I feel like this alien is inadvertently turning this into a counseling session for the three of them. We've been seeing grains of regret and remorse from Bailey so far, but it's been overshadowed by bitterness so far. Perhaps it would be more earnest and genuine after all of this if they get through it.
