If you're wondering what happened to all of the colors, to shade pictures I shade over grey, so I can get a good feel for the volumes at play. :}

For me, absolutely. I'd rather get the shading and volumes right first, then worry about the color. :}
An interesting look into your process! Do you find that the colour can distract when shading?
