Great Scott is an old American exclamation back in the 19th century. It was used to express shock or disbelief, similar to saying "Good heavens!" or "Holy cow!" The phrase possibly refers to General Winfield Scott, a large and prominent American military figure in the 1800s. He was well-known, and people used his name as a euphemism.
