I also rewatched this episode over and over, although my version was on a VHS tape that also had season 1 episode 3 of Family Guy, the one with Stewie's first birthday, a season 3 episode of King of the Hill where Hank's colon x-ray becomes art, and the Simpsons episode where Homer becomes an artist after failing to build a barbecue pit. I would put it on during Christmas and whenever the show was on hiatus and I wanted to watch something different from the episodes they'd show over and over again in syndication on Fox. Great episode!

4you

I just rewatched this episode after haven't having seen it in ages. This was an episode I would rewatch multiple times on a Simpsons holiday dvd when I was a kid and watching it as a grown man, it hit the right spots. Something about the fact that all of the characters are less well established here makes them feel well, less established. They come off as humans rather than having 30+ years of their character being shown on screen. When Homer shuddered at Patty and Selma being at the house, it felt less like the characters of Patty and Selma were there, and more like your annoying aunts are there to be judgemental. I love the awkward but heartwarming nature of this pre-golden era Simpsons for that reason and this episode is the best at it.
