THE NEW SINGLE!!
🕑 Added 2021-09-02 03:24:25 +0000 UTCWow. Been a minute since I've posted here. Sorry about that I've been busy with... well you all know what I've been busy with. But hey, check this out! Because I love you all so much I'm gonna let you listen to my new single an ENTIRE WEEK before it releases. So shhhhhhh don't show this to anyone else. It is for our super secret and exclusive club only! But let me know what you think in the comments!
A bit about the song:
So this song is about my journey in recovery. It was originally written as a folk/country ballad and was called "Sobriety Song". There was an entire version of it that was supposed to be on the 2020 release of Beautiful Things and I decided to pull it because I just wasn't happy with the production style I'd chosen for the song. I loved the lyrics and the melody, but the production just wasn't delivering the right sound and I didn't have any ides for how to improve it so I decided to set the entire song aside and see if anything came up at a later point. The intro with the lead synth was my jumping off point. I actually wrote that intro as part of a parody song I wrote for a brand I work with called Braid. I liked it so much I wanted to use it for a real song. I realized it could fit well with "Sobriety song" so I built a rudimentary demo track of the first verse and chorus and I knew I'd found the correct style to make this song really cook. Basically what I wound up with is something heavily inspired by the synth rock sound of the Killers, and that's never gonna be a bad thing.
The lyrics:
So in the first verse I'm talking about Hannah. She's the person that first told me where I could find a meeting. I was flirting with her over text on tinder and trying to get her to invite me over. I told her I had a bottle of wine that we could share. She informed me she was sober. I instantly asked her how she did that and told her that I desperately wanted to be sober, it was very obvious I was hurting and searching hard for a solution She happily pointed me in the right direction.
The second verse is about my relationship with my sponsor and my fellows in the program who really saved me in the early days. Strangers who gave me their phone numbers and called me every day. It was a whole new world and it was selfless and service-based and authentic. It was really exciting and scary and kind of magical.
Finally at the end of the song I take on the perspective of my current self extending the message back to other addicts, the way it was extended to me. Whatever you can do to survive. To make it one more day. To stay. In those early days you are fighting for every minute, every hour, every day. You have to do whatever you can to keep your seat and to keep your sanity.

Love this song! Reminds me of The Killers, Morrissey and Airborne Toxic Event...and totally could have been on the Drive soundtrack (which I was obsessed with)

I really like the bass/synth on the verses, especially verse 2. And then when it hits at 2:35 after that cool guitar section, SO SATISFYING.

I'm really glad you used this synth melody again, I really liked it in the Braid video, it's cool that it gets to have this other life too.
