Sure, everyone has bad days at work…but can police officers afford that luxury? Let’s face it, cops are often criticized no matter how good of a job they do. That’s just the nature of being in law enforcement it seems. But in March of 2019, when a 911 call came from inside a home in Grand Rapids, MI, that criticism may have been warranted. After a woman’s voice was heard whispering for help, stating that someone was going to kill her, not only did police fail to take action…but they may have also let a double murderer slip right through their hands…undetected.

So I’m catching up on old episodes and just listened to the Guatemala master. I have a question… the girl that was interviewed in that episode who seeks gore videos to help her feel sympathy because she has a personality disorder… i started wondering, is that what serial killers are doing? Do they experience a moment of sympathy and feeling “human emotion” when they torture and kill?
Empathy
This episode was definitely worth the wait! Thank you! But, that 911 call was heart breaking. And I don't understand the police response. They just walked away??!!! Why didn't anyone contact the home owner? Or speak with any neighbors? Surely they would have been granted permission to enter the house for a welfare check if only they had done a more thorough job and contacted the property owner! It's public record! Especially when a 911 call is being whispered, then dropped and no one answers a call back. This was just shotty police work and I hope this case is used as an example of what not to do in the training of officers. And while this may be a terrible thing to say, I hope this case haunts these officers and that they question their response and actions on a daily basis and feel guilty. Let this drive these officers to do better and remember a "routine" day for them is someone else's worst nightmare. I sense some major compassion fatigue in these officers. Thank you Michael for covering this case and please update us WHEN this scumbag murderer is caught! Because he WILL burn the bridges of those who are helping him elude capture and at some point, someone will have had enough and toss him out like the garbage he is.
