Nicknamed “Remy” by UBC students for reasons that will immediately become apparent, the rat president was first seen in 2022 in a dorm dining hall GETTING PICKED UP VIA TONGS. In 2023, “Remy the Rat” ran for president of Canada’s largest student union and WON on a pretty progressive platform. Joke candidates have won before, but the student who ran as Remy seemed pretty serious about their platform and voter turnout was over 22% - which is a lot for a student election. this totally supports my friends theory that only stupid chads win american presidential elections. smart chads (bernie, fidel, kerry, gore) come off as not “common man” enough, and although they would make excellent leaders, they don’t have that beer drinking appeal. smart virgins (romney, AOC, ben shapiro types) are way too sterile and calculated and the people can tell it’s all an act, or that these people have no warmth and charm. stupid virgins (desantis, mccain) have no appeal at all. the people don’t trust their leadership and they come across as bumbling idiots AND they have absolutely no swagger or sex appeal. But the stupid chad is the ultimate shining example of a US president (Regan, bush jr, trump, biden, clinton, JFK). doesn’t really matter what their policies are, but they have so much unabashed cowboy confidence and anything they say goes. They are like celebrities in their respective supporter groups (and sometimes actual celebrities, re; Reagan and trump). the people elect them because they are DUDES. you can have a beer with them, they’re kinda wacky and silly, or sometimes sexy, and their favorability has virtually nothing to do with their actual stances or policies.
