So... With a fair bit of extrapolation, it seems like Calliope the Oracle was indirectly punished for her name by having her heart claimed by Calliope the Muse. Damon Aetos challenged that, and Anagyros Aetos helped him kill Calliope the Muse by using The King's Curse. Anagyros was killed after they succeeded, but Calliope the Oracle and every other hero claimed by Calliope the Muse had their heart ripped out upon Calliope the Muse's death. Leo Aetos is likely Calliope the Oracle's heart given human form after it was ripped out of her.

Griffon is too cool to worry about burning out his life to look awesome. Also, he stabbed a minor deity and didn't immediately die. Awesome.

Insane Stuff, Striker

Striker, this is fucking amazing. I genuinely don't know how to express how epic this is. If all Progression Fantasy was like this, nobody would ever read anything else. Goddamn.

Glamb.

Burning lifeblood/lifeforce/lifeenergy is a classic among cultivation novels and i was wondering when/if it would show up here properly. Great chapter as always though, makes me want to reread LOTM for some reason.

What makes you think that they don’t despise Damon? Stavros said that he wouldn’t be willing to wish death on Lio anymore than he would on Damon or himself, and we saw that that was a misleading truth.

Striker

Yep, the Caustic Queen chapters were in error. I'll get it fixed.

Caoimhín

Ya Boy, there's a contradiction in this chapter compared to what was said in the past In chapter 1.114, the Caustic Queen part 1, it was said that a Captain of the Sophic Realm could live to be a thousand years old, and a Captain of the Heroic Realm could live up to ten thousand. In this chapter the numbers are raised by 10, but then there needs to be an edit in the Caustic Queen chapter to correct this contradiction.

Caoimhín

Maybe Calliope the Muse was the direct cause that Calliope the Oracle was so sickly. It was said during the Stavros Aetos flashbacks that her having the name of one of the Muses was an insult to the Muse, a hubris that made her suffer. Maybe it wasn't in some distant indirect way of having been born with a weak body, but the Muse actively hurting her in some way, which led to Damon killing the Muse Calliope. "The Tragic Muse’s seven sisters converged on me like falling stars." A hint supporting the theory of Calliope being dead is that despite being nine Muses, only seven attack Griffon when he wounded Melpomene. It also makes me wonder, who was Calliope's father? Who could have the hubris to not care about the retribution of naming his daughter as the chief of the Muses? Maybe Calliope is Bakkhos's daughter?

Caoimhín

I think that's related. The Greek cultivators start their journey as cultivators taking inspiration from the corpses of gods, and they must ultimately make a path of their own, the problem comes in the long run when they don't correct that deviation and instead keep piling up mistakes such as getting help from the Muses and becoming Tyrants instead of Kings of Glory. That Heroic Captain from the Broken Tide was a bastard, but not all heroes are that way. His ten labors that gave him his ranks within the Heroic Realm were things not of his own, but we have seen examples of other Heroes ascending in circumstances entirely their own, like Damon and Anargyros (who still got Muses) and others ascending in tragedy, such as Jason and Scythas.

Red Kite

I don't think it's the bodies of the gods themselves that are the problem, or Sol and Griffon are as right fucked as everyone else. The problem is So Called 'Heroes' deriving power from acting like tyrants in miniature, claiming the labours of others as their own glory instead of refining themselves. And of course, that the Muses outside of the storm (Perhaps the true muses themselves are imprisoned much like Prometheus?) are actively supportive of the cruelty of the Higher Powers. Also shoutout to Knife-Runt. Seems like he was one of the kids whose parent's died to kill the Virtuous Beast the "Hero" used as a foundational achievement of his ascent. Sure he's as iron as everything else, but he knew what he was about.

Red Kite

...But if Anagyros did it, and fed everything of himself to that sword, it might be how he died - and if it's tied to Griffons birth, then it would explain both why the other brothers don't blame Damon, but do despise Griffon.

Red Kite

Ah. I think I know what happened. Damon (or possibly Anagyros, but probably Damon) Killed Calliope the Muse with that sword.

Caoimhín

This was a truly epic chapter. Lots of interesting revelations and questions raised. We got an insight into the Tyrant's souls and the mechanisms of Heroic cultivation techniques, and a revelation about the Muses, which resonates with the conversation that Scythas had with his Muse inside the Storm That Never Ceases, in which she helped him, and Scythas said that the Muse outside had never actively helped him walk a path only showed him the way, to which the stone siren claimed that the Muse lied to him. It seems something happened after the death of the gods that changed the Muses, the Muses were somehow spared the Damnatio Memoriae and can still be remembered by people but they have been twisted because of it. Moreover, now we have another sign of the Conqueror's legendary prowess and confirmation of Alexander's being alive, seems like he managed to ascend to Heaven. And another insight regarding the pox in the soul of Greek cultivators: their foundations are twisted by the Greater Mysteries. And that makes sense, because they are taking inspiration from a corpse. Even if that is the body of a god, it is nevertheless a dead thing that is being used as the foundation for a journey toward immortality, that contradiction costs them in the long run despite the powerful benefits they get in the short term. Truly amazing.

Caoimhín

Awesome. Honestly, I expected Niko's ship to hear the AETOS! shout of Polyzalus and the burning whip attack to pass them close by.

this story is just too good. Every time theres a chapter I cant access I try and convince myself that I only have to wait and I can read it later, I dont have to get the next tier. But in the end Thus Always to Tyrants.
