Hello everyone, Koyyle here!
As the Lead Programmer, I wanted to take a moment to speak directly to all of you about the future of BBS. With mixed emotions that I have to announce Bare Backstreets will no longer be the primary focus of development. However, I want to be absolutely clear: this is not the end. We will continue to support the game with updates to address game-breaking bugs, improve quality-of-life features, and potentially even add new content.
In fact, some of the more problematic systems may even be rewritten over time to ensure a better experience for everyone.
What Went Wrong? The road to developing BBS has been anything but smooth, and I’d like to be transparent about the challenges that led to this decision: Nonexistent Documentation:
When I joined the project, there was next to no documentation. This lack of a knowledge base made it incredibly difficult to understand the game’s inner workings and build on them effectively.
Awful Custom Compiler: While we didn’t build the compiler in-house, the one we’ve relied on has been a constant source of frustration. It’s outdated, inflexible, and has caused more than its fair share of setbacks.
Technical Debt: Years of rushed patches and quick fixes resulted in a codebase that is very spaghettified. Each change feels like trying to untangle a web without breaking it.
Poor Modularity: Core systems were tightly coupled, meaning that even small updates could cascade into unforeseen issues elsewhere. This severely limited our ability to iterate quickly or add new features. While these challenges have made development a constant uphill battle, they’ve also taught us valuable lessons that we’ll carry forward into future projects.
The Future: Amorous 2 With that in mind, I’m incredibly excited to officially announce Amorous 2, the sequel to the hit game Amorous!
Amorous 2 represents a fresh start for our team. We’re building it from the ground up with a focus on modern tools, proper documentation, and a modular architecture that ensures scalability and sustainability. This new game will take everything that made the first Amorous special and elevate it to new heights. We can’t wait to share more details with you soon, and we hope you’re as excited about Amorous 2 as we are.
What’s Next for BBS? Although BBS is no longer our primary focus, we are not abandoning it. Expect ongoing updates to address critical issues, improve player experience, and gradually tackle the most significant problem areas.
We owe it to you—the community who has supported us—to ensure that BBS remains playable and enjoyable for years to come. Thank you for sticking with us through the highs and lows. Your passion and feedback have been instrumental in shaping our journey, and we’re so grateful to have such a dedicated community. Thank you for your generous support of the BBS project. Your dedication and belief in our work have meant so much to me and the team, enabling us to create something truly special. Thanks to your backing, I was able to produce over 1,000 frames of meticulously hand-drawn animation, covering a wide range of body types, genders, and preferences.
While I am deeply disappointed to announce that production of BBS must be paused for the time being, I am immensely grateful for everything this project has taught me. It has been a transformative experience that has significantly honed my artistic skills across various areas. I’m honored to have been able to share this journey and its creative outcomes with all of you.
Looking ahead, I’m particularly excited about the development of Amorous 2. This new endeavor represents an opportunity to bring my years of 3D art practice to life in a meaningful way. One of my primary goals is to create one of the most comprehensive furry character creators to date, allowing players to design their fursonas with incredible accuracy. The character creator from the original Amorous resonated deeply with many of you, and I aim to build upon that foundation in a way that exceeds expectations. Additionally, I have numerous concepts for future dateable characters that I can’t wait to fully explore and bring to life.
We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding as we transition to this new chapter. I know this may not be the news you were hoping for, and it is not the outcome I envisioned either. However, I am confident that with Amorous 2, we can restore your confidence in our team’s ability to deliver a truly exceptional and complete gaming experience.

Something is wrong with this update when I download the update even when I completely reinstall I still only have 0.8.2 but not 0.9.0 .

As of trying to download and play the game this morning on 1/29/2025, the game seems entirely unplayable, as in I literally can't play the game. Every time I launch it instantly crashes before I can even make it to character select. Incredibly disappointing, I remember actually enjoying this back when it first came out

While this is nice seeing the Baxter update first, the whole point of me supporting the Patreon was for BBS. I've been on here for 5 and a half years and the game's still a buggy unplayable mess, but when it does work the concept is fun. I understand and have seen all the different developers who came in and tried their hand at it, but I'm not going to keep blindly throwing money (even if it's $5) at something that's clearly never going to be finished. I hope the game's eventually playable but I'm not going to stick around and find out.

such a major let down, to release yet another bug filled update along with a post saying you're basically ending the project feels like such a slap in the face to your supporters. We've waited months for Baxter and he feels like a simple Verg clone, with no real character design or development and a buggy move set that looks ridiculous. Do you even test these build before putting them out? Sadly, I think this is the end of the road for my support of what was just a promising project back when I first stumbled on it
