Carbon capture caught my attention because it is clear we have to try something, but is seems like small scale testing should proceed actual implementation. Drastic reduction in CO2 emissions is the ultimate solution, but waiting for that to happen could be our undoing. It is possible that the only good money being invested is that which goes to fusion reactor R&D.

About carbon capture from the air, not directly from chimney exhausts: There is a concern that oil companies are for it, and at least one participates in it, because by, eventually, taking out of the air as much carbon as burning their oil puts in, their business will be "Carbon Neutral", governments will pay for implementing the capture part and, on top of that, award to them whatever it is they gain by being "such good citizens." All of this being done with no net improvement to the CO2 in the air and to the climate situation. Maybe those who think like that are a bit paranoid, although it makes sense to me. I write this on this particular case, because I am otherwise all for geoengineering, on top of adaptation and of cutting down on fuel consumption with the world-wide and enforceable goal of a negligible use of fossil fuels to move the machinery of industrial civilization. By the way, the sound-through-vacuum idea seems to me like a solution in search of a problem. At least going by the explanation of it.
