Progress Update so far!
🕑 Added 2019-06-30 19:00:40 +0000 UTCWell. Still hard at work trying to encode side images and work on the latest Chapter. I have finally figured out how to use Ren'py's LayeredImage function to layer different outfits over a base side sprite. Thanks so much to Deevil and Bob Conway Games, and Rob Colton for helping figure out how to use this function! I so appreciate it!! :D :D So a lot of that time was encoding those side images into the game, figuring out how to make it work properly, and looking good.
Anyways, moving onto what's actually new.
For example, if "Grant" is wearing nothing, he'd look like this:
And the outfits look like this, for example:
So I can call the appropriate tag for his outfit, and layer it on the shirtless stud, after calling different specific expression of the base model. I also have plenty of Grant's shirtless side image in multiple expressions, so that's been fun to fiddle with.
Originally, I'd started with this image above with five basic emotions, and would have had to have 30-40 expressions with *every* outfit, which would have bloated the filesize. So, we decided to do all the expressions with just the naked 'version' of Grant. Then all I need is ONE outfit image, then I could 'erase' Grant's head, and use that outfit, reducing clothing needs from 40 per outfit to 3-4 outfits alone.
Another neat feature of Layeredimage is you can layer images with transparencies over each other. If you noticed in the title image - Grant's thoughts now have a 'bubble' image layered over the base text box. I decided that it'd be easier to create that bubble image and use it as a Layered Image attribute than creating an entirely new text box just for thinking.
I've been working on Chapter 7, still. It's slow because I'm probably struggling as to what to do with Chris at times, and thankfully I'm finally 1/3rd through that. The chapter is sort of split between 2 paths for Chris at the moment, and the first of that one is finally done, and another path with Brent. So roughly 2/3rd of it left to do.
I also have been working on having tall sprites encoded in the game. So far, it's the first two chapters, the last couple, I think, that I've managed to have them in. I recently acquired two new sprites for Grant - along with the same outfit to match those. :) All 3D work is done by Deevil himself :D Give him a hand for doing an awesome job.
