I like the idea of adult Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man but Iron Man gives him a magic spider and suit is just an unappealing route to get there. Pass but I hope somebody does this concept again.

I, too, was underwhelmed by ULTIMATE INVASION but I'm not the big Hickman fan so many people seem to think I should be. Earlier stuff of his that I've read, while not bad at all, just didn't land with me. ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, though, is landing with me in a big bad way, thus far.

I read the first 2 issues and thought they were great. I'm probably not sticking it out for fear of whose going to die just to propel Peters motivation.

Well, I may to pick this up then. From what you say it is in some ways the anti One More Day as well. It always strikes me when a writer can take elements some consider essential to something and change it. If they're good, you often see what remains in a new light.
