Oh cripes, I read Nemesis when I was in high school and all over the Kick-Ass movie, prime target for something that edgy, and I still thought the stupid thing blew chunks. Then again, I got my hands on the Kick-Ass comic shortly thereafter and thought the same to a less potent degree, so it might just be I've no taste for Millar period.

I hear good things about his creator owned comic Huck and wrote it as a response to the film Man of Steel which he didn't like. Millar when he's not trying to be an edgelord can write some good stuff. He's worse than Garth Ennis in that regard yet both really love the Man of Tomorrow oddly enough.

I dont think there an official statement that Millar has disowned the Unfunnies. But Millar do not list the series on his website and he do not want to discuss it. So there is something up. Maybe he consider the series an old shame.

@Prof Jeff I looked around for information. I don't see anything official. BUT...Millar has unlisted the comic book from his website and the artist isn't mentioned in his collaborators. Apparently, Millar will not answer interview questions about the comic and a recent retrospective covering all his work omits The Unfunnies in his bibliography. Finally, it's not digitally available, unlike the rest of his work. Again, not an official statement, but it sure does look like a piece of work he doesn't want his name attached to.

I remember his Spider-Man having one very fascinating idea it introduces way too late and that could never be effectively tackled in the Marvel Universe. Millar was ahead on calling out American Imperialism and corporate capture. It's easy to miss under all of the nastiness.

@Super Vader: Do you have a source on him disowning it? I can't say I enjoyed the Unfunnies (perhaps no one should), but I'm glad I read it and I heartily recommend it to anyone in this space.

Oh, he disowned it? Interesting. I may have to look up the details on that. Maybe this is a good idea for an extra only available here? I mean, I would have to censor a LOT of that to avoid being shadow banned by YouTube again.

I liked Millar work on Superman Adventures. But being based on the Superman Animated series from the 1990s and targeted to a younger audience. Millar was most likely under tight editorial oversight. Did not care must for Millar work on Spiderman. Wonder if Strange Brain Parts will ever be brave enough to tackel Millars the Unfunnies from Avatar Press. A series Mark Millars has disowned.

I think there an is untapped pocket of Millar comics where he tries to behave himself that'd be interesting to unpack. Like his Spider-Man run, anytime he does Superman, that one series where Flash Gordon is an old man. Can Millar be effectively sentimental?

Yeah man, cringe is good! Are you familiar with the channel In/Frame/Out? If not, it's a film critique channel that often posts rather scathing commentary on cringe cinema. I refer to it any time someone tries to tell me Equilibrium is a good movie lol
