One Foot in the Grave: Season 1, Episode 6 The Return of the Speckled Band

Keith Pratt

Josh doesn't want spoilers.

John Morris

I'd say the Pit and the pendulum and Warm Champagne are my favourites. The old woman from the home in bed 😂 The "Ball on the penalty spot" 😂 and of course - dog / phone!

Right Said Brett

Indeed. I hope that Josh goes to the trouble of sourcing the unedited version of that episode for his reaction.

Rob Walters

'Hearts of Darkness' must rank as the most bold, original and daring episode of a sitcom EVER. The absolute switch halfway through is truly remarkable although I'll stop right there for obvious reasons...

Series 1 of OFITG is similar in its low-key nature to series 1 of Only Fools. It really does just set up the general premise of the show and the focus is largely on Victor only. As with Only Fools, OFITG expands from series 2 onwards, more main (and secondary but integral) characters are introduced, and the plots get bigger, better, madder, more convoluted, and the character writing becomes more detailed and impressive with every episode. OFAH's strongest series is arguably series 6, where with OFITG, series 4 is the cream of a very rich crop, every episode a winner. My favourite episode of all (Hearts of Darkness) is in this series, and it's OFITG at its very best, a masterpiece of characterisation, comedy, drama, and ingenious plotting. 🙏 I'm so happy that my favourite British sitcom of all time is being reacted to on here. And we're one series down already! 😁

Series 2 on is where this series really starts to find its feet series one is of course great but from now it kicks it to a whole new level

girlsdrinkfeck

even worse a UK 13 shoe is a 14 in USA ( i know cuz my shoes say both us and UK sizes on the tongue )

"I got about halfway through and that was about as much as I could stomach i'm afraid." Was that a sly reference to the stomach burst scene in Alien I wonder lol

David Lyons

In case you were wondering, the 'Speckled Band' mentioned in the title is a reference to a Sherlock Holmes short story, which also features a snake.

CatsandCrafts

You might just hear reptile talk in the next episode, the first of Series 2! Now the show really comes into its own! Can’t wait to watch along with you guys!

Jim

Yep. It wasn't even meant to be a catchphrase at this point, only to become iconic by accident. I always did prefer "What in the name of bloody hell!" though...

hi josh , ive seen a few times the isle of wight get mentioned and you look confused , the isle of wight is the largest and second-most populous island in England , with 145,000 people and its 140 sq mi , only 4 miles away from the mainland , its also my home <3 ;p , the ferry they mention is usually a hovercraft (or a huge car ferry) and can be pretty rough at times ( fun fact , the first hover craft in the world was made here i believe) hope ya doing well!

why waste it on a corpse ? Give it to Victor Meldrew

Rob Walters

That unintelligible dustman was played by the legendary Willie Ross - Who gives the finest performance of a drunken arsehole even DeNiro couldn't top, in the classic film 'Rita, Sue and Bob Too'. I nominate that Josh watches the film as I'm sure he'd find it as hilarious as the rest of us!

Keith Pratt

Pol Pot was the prime minister of Cambodia from 1975 - 1979. He committed mass genocide.

Ben

Was that the first utterance of "I don't believe it?" ?

Claire Prowse

Mrs Warbouys is such a star in this series! I loved the first season but they just get even funnier and madder from now on.
