2025 | Patreon 2.0 Update!?

Earlier this year, we announced that Patreon would retire the per-creation model by November 2025 due to Apple’s subscription policy changes. Like many creators, we’re being forced into a new system — but we’re not here to mope. Instead, we’ve embraced the change as a chance to make things better.
Since then, we’ve officially started building what we call Patreon 2.0 — a smoother, smarter, and more exciting version of Eightfold Paper.
Your Feedback Sparked Something in Us
A few weeks ago, we asked for your feedback via a short form… and wow. We were honestly blown away by the kindness, support, and excitement you shared with us. Your responses weren’t just helpful — they were energizing. Reading your messages lit a fire in us. Thank you.
Your answers confirmed what we were already leaning toward: transitioning sooner rather than later. They also gave us the confidence to move forward with clearer pricing that balances fairness with sustainability.
A First Peek at the New Tier Structure
We’ve kept our $1-per-creation tier since 2019 because we wanted to stay accessible and affordable — especially for those supporting multiple creators. However, global costs have gone up, and we want to continue growing while offering real value. Striking that balance is our key goal here.
So, here's the early outline of our future tiers (exact prices still pending final math):
Tier 1 ($3–$4 – Paper Knight)
Base-level Maps + Access to The FoldTier 2 ($7–$9 – Paper Wizard)
Base + Plus Maps, The Fold+, Foundry VTT content, and The Item FoldTier 3 ($12–$15 – Paper Hero)
All of the above + Commercial Use + Exclusive bonuses and discounts
We promise: this transition will be as painless as possible. No one will be caught off guard — we’ll let you know everything before it happens.
So, how is it happening? How's Development Going?
Pretty darn well! We’re actively building The Fold, a clean, searchable archive where you can filter and download your maps and items with ease. And… our Foundry VTT integration is getting spicy. 🌶️
We’ll be launching with 15 Foundry maps, each with powerful Dynamic Fold features.
Each corresponding month, add three new Dynamic maps to that list.
We won’t keep every map infinitely accessible — most will eventually expire (likely after 6 months). However, you’ll retain permanent access to any map released while you were an active patron. More details will come as development continues.
Here’s a sneak peek of what’s coming:
Dynamic Toggles
Turn boats, crates, or other elements on/off without affecting players' tokens.
Elevation Layers
Players can walk under or above objects, depending on their elevation.
Toggles with Effects
Tiles aren’t limited to just objects — some toggle effects, too!
Variation-Linked Toggles
Toggle (Tile) elements adapt to the selected variation (e.g., a flooded dock has matching colors, etc.).
Selective Transparency
Some structures (like roofs or windmill blades) become transparent as you pass behind them or hover your mouse over them — keeping sightlines clear while preserving the vibe.

We’re still refining the UI for the Dynamic Fold itself, but we couldn’t resist showing you what’s coming.
Depending on the final web development milestones, we’re currently aiming to go live with everything by May or June.
