Few things to talk about then isn't there?
🕑 Added 2018-12-19 10:44:52 +0000 UTC So, first and foremost. Part 1 is in it's final form. Even though there are a couple more things I would like changed, I need to absolutely move on from it. But yes, it is finalised and it will be released at 4PM GMT Christmas day because that just seems like a fun thing to do.I have heard it's not wise to release a video on Christmas but I figure that as long as you guys see it eventually, it's all good.
Part 2 is still on the way and I think I will go into more detail for it in the next update as I have created something else. As you can see in the screenshot above, I have a new thing I am putting out on New Year's eve. It is an audio commentary!
Specifically for The Last Jedi, it is meant to act as a sort of year celebration since the initial rage video. Me and a friend talk about the film, about the past year and about the launch of the first video. The whole thing took some time to edit, cutting out noises, correcting pacing, adding music that balances alongside the commentary, adding clips for visual reference and having plenty of images to make sure you can watch it without the film.
We also make it clear on how to sync up with us and which movie length we have, so it's all very smooth....hopefully.
This is obviously the first time I have done this and if it is very much not enjoyed then it will be okay to nuke the idea but if you guys end up enjoying it, i'm sure that me and Alex would like to explore doing more of them with many films in future.
So, outside of that, we have the whole thing with Sargon and Patreon. I know many people who have ended their patronage with me are doing it to remain principled and send Patreon a message. And I know that many of you are currently considering the same action.
The whole thing is a mess and for the creators at the top, I really hope there is some form of action that is taken to make a safer platform for income for the creators that are more controversial. If you think about how Mumkey Jones was summarily deleted from YouTube, it's only a matter of time for many other creators and it's kind of scary.
So where do I stand on this issue? Well, I don't have much of a choice here. I will open a SubscribeStar account once that site is fully functional and I will encourage people to donate through YouTube despite the lesser slice because I can't condemn anyone for refusing to allow Patreon to receive any of their money.
On the other hand, this site really does support the hell out of me and Patreon take 5% I think? There is a question of morality and principal but many are hand waving this incident off compared tobeing able to maintain support for the creators they most want to see work from.
I might forever keep Patreon, I might one day close my Patreon. I might prop the SubscribeStar account more prominently over Patreon. But it's a little bit too early to tell. I don't know exactly how this will look weeks/months from now and i'm not entirely sure of what should be done in response.
I need this income to continue full time work on the channel, so for now, I shall continue but I am very concerned about the future of YouTube, Patreon and PayPal.
However, since this is Christmas, let's end on a lighter note!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and find a few moments of chill time to check out the coming video, this is a result of a lot of months and of course there is another 5 parts to come.
Things are only slowing down a bit as my family fill up the house around Christmas time and there's lots of catching up/hanging out to do but work is still full steam ahead. Thanks again folks, il see you on Christmas I suppose o/

You're an apolitical creator (mostly) so it's a bit different with regards to Patreon. Since the recent spate of music labels manually claiming videos despite fair use is upon us, better that Mauler keeps his alternate revenue stream for when they ultimately pounce on the critique videos.

Sargon of Akkad was banned from Patreon for things that did not violate the terms of service. Essentially Patreon has been turned on by left wing outrage mobs and has completely capitulated in the case of controversial content creators. The worst part is that the right wing has started taking revenge by deplatforming left wing creators on the site, which will lead to a purity spiral on both sides until nobody but the most mundane and family friendly creators are left. Sam Harris, Jordan Peterson and 1000s of users have all quit or will in the near future, which is causing instability.

While I don't agree with Patreon's practices I believe in a free market so until a better platform arrives that you can benefit more from and can confidently move to, I can live with those pricks leeching some blood from my subscription. They've dealt the damage to themselves already and going forward. Until a better platform arrives if I have to pinch my nose to support workers like Mauler so be it, it's well worth it.

Right now SubscribeStar is being de-platformed by PayPal (which seems to be some pretty blatant collusion to help their butt buddies over at Patreon), but I'd say once that site has a working payment processor open an account over there and people who want to leave Patreon on principle can, and can also still support you, the one's who aren't bothered can remain here. Hopefully Patreon and Youtube stop with this de-personifying garbage but I don't see it occurring anytime soon while they can de-platform and cut the payment processing of any sites they want. Moving platforms and support mechanisms will be tough, but eventually it will need to happen to stop them from shutting everyone down.
I am extremely concerned with the way Patreon is handling this whole situation. Their policies put at risk the livelihood of all the talented creators who use their platform. Their actions prove that ANY business built on Patreon can be wiped out at a whim, with no clear guidelines by which creators and Patreon employees can abide by. My disgust with Patreon over this issue makes me want to cut off my support of it, but at the same time, I don't want to penalize the people I want to support by withdrawing my pledges. For now, I'll continue with Patreon, but should any of the creators I support move to another platform, my pledge will go with them. Hopefully, the idiots who are currently running this website will realize the gravity of the mistake they made and will make changes so that creators can be safe to rely on it, regardless of political affiliation. But somehow I doubt it. I'm happy to support you as long as I can, Mauler, whether it be here or on other services. I'd very much like to hear your thoughts on the matter, along with Rags and Wolf. I'm sure you guys would have some interesting insights on the matter.
People who disagree with you are not "dimmer" simply for the sake that they disagree with you. Believe it or not, you can respectfully disagree with someone. Mauler, you're the only person I've ever supported on Patreon but I'm pulling out because, in my opinion, allowing such actions without consequence tells websites that they can do whatever they want with people's livelihoods. I'll support you elsewhere, m8. To those still supporting you here, more power to them, you deserve the support.
Folks who dropped Patreon on principle need to review their principles. When you take action against the entity that feeds those you wish to support, you've now found conflicting loyalties. When that happens, you have to look at the bigger picture. I'm not bailing because it hurts you and others -- the whole point of the effort. Unfortunately, the dimmer bulbs who bailed will no longer receive your input or mine. <sigh> Keep up the good work.</sigh>
