The 100 1X9: Unity Day
🕑 Added 2024-04-24 23:00:04 +0000 UTCThis was the first episode where I think I was more interested in what was happening on the Ark, as opposed to the ground. And what was happening on the ground was intense. So that should tell you something.
I knew Diana was not to be trusted. I didn't actually know what her plan was (I kind of thought it was to overthrow Jaha, but to do what with the power I wasn't sure) but you knew it was gonna be bad. And it was. Not only did she steal the dropship, but she caused the Ark to be without vital stuff like, you know, air and heat. On the plus side, Abby is on the dropship, but she's wounded. Not to mention the whole ship crashed, so we have no idea if any of them actually made it.
Down on the ground, we're trying to make peace with the grounders, but both sides don't trust the other and bring backup and weapons. Jasper shoots first and all hell breaks loose. Lincoln is hit and makes the other's take Octavia back to keep her safe. She's not pleased.
I'm not sure if this could have worked even if Jasper didn't fire. Clarke and Anya were on shaky ground and I'm not sure a truce could have been fully brokered, but there is zero chance now. Not sure how I feel about Clarke's new attitude. Probably necessary, but I don't think I like it. Sigh.

Even after multiple rewatches of this show, I still can't tell whether Jasper was right to shoot because one grounder did gesture to another. For all we know, that was an order to kill Clarke, or Finn or Octavia behind her. But it also could have just been like a status update or a check-in. So did he ruin everything or was he ahead of the ball and saved Clarke's life? I think the "important" bits of this episode were on the ark but I tend to favor the ground's storyline. I think it's just because I like the characters on the ground more lol. While you were talking about who we are on the ground and it being Bellamy and Clarke vs Finn and Octavia, I was thinking exactly what you were saying. In an ideal world, yeah, I think most of us would like to say we'd be like Finn or Octavia but Finn and Octavia can only have that mindset because 1. Bellamy and Clarke are keeping them safe. And not just safe from the grounders but from the incoming winter and starvation. Bellamy and Clark are ensuring a societal order so that the camp operates in a way that benefits everyone. If that wasn't in place, it would be anarchy and you wouldn't even have time to consider an option that wasn't war. 2. It's easy to advocate for peace and trust and don't bring weapons when the responsibility of keeping 90-something people alive isn't actually yours. I'm very uninterested in the Finn/Raven/Clarke triangle but, like you said, both Raven and Clarke handle is as well as can be expected. I'd say FInn causes more issues about it than they do. It took a while for it to click for me that Raven is so invested because Finn isn't just a boyfriend, he's her family. Not just on the ground but at all. Like she's talked about, he's the one who has always been there and cared for her and made sure she had food when her mom was spending their rations on drugs. He's more than just a romantic partner to her so losing him would be like losing your entire family in one go. That realization helped me have a bit more patience with the triangle lol.
