Meet Pari in the medbay!

This week I worked on the scene where the astronaut wakes up from the healing pod. So let me show you what I made :)
Waking up from a slumber
So the entire scene in the medbay will be quite long, but it all starts with the docter calling over keen for some help. She’s about to wake up the astronaut, and is removing the safety clamps from the healing pod. Keen is then instructed to handle the wheel in order to lower the protective glass.
Here is how that looks.
Sliding down
Now since this is quite an important moment in the game, I wanted to see if could add a bit of extra drama to the scene by slowly removing the protective glass. Now to achieve this I had to get creative with some sliding images, and image-masks :) And here you can see what I did.
So the glass is a seperate image that I can slide around. And on top of that, I placed an image of the background, where I cut a hole in the origional position of the glass. And this hides effectively the end-position of the glass animation.
Sliding sideways
Now, I was quite happy with this...but then I realized that the glass would never fit into the bottom of the healing-pod… unless it folds, but that’s wierd right? So I gave it another try, and tried to slide the glass to the side.
Now this was even harder to do, and required more visual trickery to make the effect really work :) The version above just shows the basic movement (because I can only move 1 photoshop layer at a time). But in game I will add a few more effects to make it even more believable. I hope you like it!
Meet the astronaut
Now after this bit the astronaut will step out of the pod and falls into the arms of the doctor. She will get a blanket, and from there on you can then talk to her. And for that scene I plan to draw a dozen poses or so. And what you see below are a few of those poses (still a bit a work in progress).
In this small animation the astronaut removes her hair from her face, which then will be the moment that keen will recognize her as his former school crush.
I named her Pari & I hope you will like her :)

Thanks blurpflurp! I'm glad you looked forward to a bit of bush, because that's now her final look :) And I love the idea of her falling in docs arms - so I'll see if I can add that somewhere. But it is indeed quite a bit of work, so for this update I probably have stick to the basic sequence :)

Wow! She's gorgeous! Love the Persian name! I have to admit I was excited for bush in the first images but realized in the bottom gif you had her shaved (either way is fine). I'm a little surprised you're not having her fall into Keen's arms (or both of theirs) while he's helping the doctor but maybe that's a bit much. But seriously, great work!
