Ron's Room finished!

In my last post I mentioned that I first wanted work on Keens school-scenes ...but ehhh...then I suddenly felt inspired to continue to work on Rons room. And over the years I learned it’s always best to work on the thing you are most enthousiastic about (as long as it’s part of the planning of course). So, that’s what I did, and this is the result!
Now each room in Space Rescue is designed to tell a clear story; and this room was completely designed to show that Ron is an inventor.
So first of all, the room needed to show some ‘inventions’. But then I thought, what makes something look like an invention- that’s a bit tricky right? Well, eventually I decided it could be anything that looks fammiliar, but isn’t clearly clearly recognizable. And with that in mind I designed a couple of weird devices and placed them on the floor and in the wall cabinets (on the left).
And then on the right, we see Ron’s workbench. Now Ron could theoretically be any type of inventor- but to stear away from other engeneers* in the game, I imagined Ron should probably work with small electronics. And therefore I gave him various testing equipment and some ehhh... ‘micro-welding machines’ to add a bit of a futuristic touch to it all ;)

Making the room
Well, and here you can see a gif, showing you how I step by step detailed this room.
Interactions
Now this room will also be ratehr interactive. The characters will move around quite a bit- and you can also click on a lot of things that will trigger a response. Here you can see a gif of a few of those parts in action!
Now to make this all work, I really had to draw this room on several layers- as you can see here.
Well- and besides drawing the room, I also detail Ron and his husband. Drawing Ron was quite easy, but I struggeled a bit more with his husband. He quickly became to formal, or to much of a butler. But when I gave him a cosy sweater he matched Rons look again, which instantly made them feel more like a couple.
And this is how they will eventually look in game :)
Well, and that finishes this part of Ron's room, I hope you like it so far :)

Hey Warren, thanks for sharing! I looked it up -and those machines are fun! It reminds me a lot of those in the Wallice and Grommit movies actually :) Maybe in the future I can animate them some more, and get some of that feeling into the game as well? Well, please take care & all the best! -Robin

Invention. I think about that and how difficult it can be, then my mind jumps to the old Rube Goldberg machines because inventors want to try it out NOW, so they tend to use what's at hand to make their idea come to life.
