Making the call

I hope you are doing well!
Here in the Netherlands it’s still sunny, and so I’ve been spending more and more weekends outdoors. I guess I’m a bit addicted to the summer :D But I must admit- when when it’s Monday morning again- I can also really excited about getting back to work. Just having a coffee and doing some coding can be strangly rewarding!
So that’s what I’ve been doing again since week; putting the game together in the engine. And one of the scenes I’ve been working on is a phonecall between Keen and Lorza. Now, this is not part of the current story - but it’s an older part of the game, that was just really unclear in my opnion. And so I desperately wanted to fix that :)
The call
Those of you who played the game, probably know what I’m talking about. At some point you need to lure Lorza away from her desk, to get into the spa. And you do this by calling her over the intercom.
But till now, this scene was no more then some text showing up against a blurred background. It was really all I could do back then - but I always felt this scene could be much better. So I started off by adding Keen to the scene, who is now picking up the phone.
(This also mean scaling down the intercom- for it needed to be further in the background and match keens position.)
Next I added a split screen where you also see Lorza picking up the phone. This should really inform the player that Lorza is moving away from her desk. The gif below shows some snapshots from the new scene.
And lastly after luring Lorza to the massage room- you couldn’t really see that she went there. So therefore I’ve added a broom and bucket against the screen; suggesting Lorza is cleaning there for a while. These items also visually block the entrance the the massage room; which was no longer accassible after the call.
Well, it took me a few hours to put all this together, but I think it will greatly improve this part of the game. There are of course many more details to fix, but at least this one is done now :)
What’s next?
- Well, I’m working hard towards the next game update (10.0) - which should be done before the end of this month.
- I’m also planning to do a poll again; where you can decide which story we should do next update (10.5).
And meanwhile in the background, I’ve been preparing/outsourcing some work for future updates.
- I’m currently working with Morgan (coder), who is making several mini-games.
- And at the same time I’m working Marlies (freelance artist), who has been drawing parts of the ‘Maintanence Maze’ for me, as well as some ’take downs’ for the wrestle competition.
And those illustrations were pretty cool! So I’ll show you some of that in my next post :)

You and your team always seem to be working, Robin. Please know that the effort is appreciated! I never really worry about the status of Space Rescue; you're very good about letting us know how things are going along, so I just wait until the next update arrives. Hope you and yours are very well!
