Going to a convention!

Hey everyone!
Soon I will be promoting Space Rescue on a real-life convention... and this will be a-eh, adult entertainment convention!
Now I've been to many cons before. But those were comic-cons & game-cons, where I was selling my comics- and later on a cardgame I made. But opposed to previous times, now I won't be selling anything. This time I just want to show of the game, and hear what the think of it :)
So Instead of setting up a table with goods, I'll turn my convention stand in a four meter long gallery wall. There I will put up about 20 screenshots, so people can just walk by and get a first impression of the game.
Logo
Now to catch peoples attention I wanted to place a logo on the wall. And how cool would it be if that would be some kind of Neon Sign? Well, Neon Signs turn out to cost a fortune...ahem!
So, like I did so often in the past - I decided to try and make something similair myself (note: I really enjoycrafting things!).
So above you see an A3, 5 millimeter black foamboard. I printed out the mirrored logo, and glued it on the back. Then I started to cut it out by hand. And in the last picture you see me holding the result in front of a lamp.
I guess it looked fine from a distance... but I really didn't like the rough edges of it all.
So then I looked into other options. And in the end I just decided to do some online shopping- and found a rather cheap and effective solution!
This is a super lightweight plastic plate, lit by a ledlight; and it works :)
Buisness cards
Now if people happen to like the game -then of course they should be able to find it online as well. So, I printed a bunch of buisness cards with the link on it. But since I have no table to put it on, I had to find another way to make them easily available.
And for that I just sticked a cardholder to the wall -using Nano tape. This tape is super strong, and leaves no marks when removed. So, got that covered as well!
Interaction
Now because I'm making a game, I also wanted to make the booth a bit more 'interactive' as well. So I thought of a few things I could do.
* Cover up the more explicit screenshots -so that people need to open a simple 'shutter' to get to see the art.
* Hand out flashlights -so people can light the screenshots they want to see. - simulating the 'point & click' experience (This con is pretty dark).
* But in the end, I went for a third idea- and decided to bring Keen along for a photo op!
Now, ideally I wanted to set up a huge cardboard cut-out for this... but for practical reasons I went with this -->

Update 1: At the convention!
So after I made my initial post above, I printed out two dozen screenshot of the game -and yesterday I put those on the wall at the convention. And this is how it all came together.

Now before it all started, I had no idea if people would drop by- or like the game. But I actually met many enthousiastic people -and it was really a lot of fun to promote the game like this. So I'll probably do it again some day.
And I think Keen would agree with me -always meeting interesting people wherever he goes! ;D

Well, now the weekend is over- it's time to get drawing again! I'm working on some art for the Hank & Rosa storyline- and soon I'll tell you all about it.

He Adam! You will require quite a few items, before you can really kick off this story. And those items come from various other stories. But once you have those; the real story starts- and from there, this will be a linear story like the rest. So I don't expect I have to rebuild much :)

I'm curious as to when the main theme with the pink shuttle is going to start progressing. If that story is going to progress in parts with all of the individual girl stories, aren't you storing up a massive rebuild for yourself down the line?

Oh sure! If you let me know where to send it? :) Also, in the future I plan to make a real goody-set (hographic cards of the girls, ship map poster, shoulder patch from keen etc.) and of course that will also include the buisness card.

Haha ;) Well, from what I saw - that would have been about 10.000 people over the weekend. And there is a whole range of stuff to see & do. I for example enjoy the burlesque shows, the sportive poledancing -and I met a colleage model-drawer who was live drawing there. But... I understand it's not for everyone :)

Hey Adam! In this case the wrestlers story required so much content & coding, that it just took me longer to finish the story that I wanted to release. And that might happen again sometimes. Although ideally, I like to release updates after 3 months, instead of 4 :) - But does it make a difference for you, if I update the game after 3 or 4 months? Or is it just that you are used to the 3 month cycle- well, I'm just curuious :)

Supeeeeer awesome! Having someone cosplay your characters , is to me, the biggest compliment ever of course. And you would be the first to do that - so, I'm kinda excited about this :D But no pressure though! Really :)

Well... the cardgame was picked up by a publisher, so it should still be for sale here and there. Perhaps I do have a few somewhere in a box...but they were basically all sold on conventions- and never really published. Thanks Graeme! I also have future plans for some real merchendise; such as making lenticular cards from the girls in game & making Keens actual shoulder patch, etc. And I would make sure to make flat merch, so shipping stays cheap as well +then I'll add the cards of course. Now I just need to find the timeto set it all up :)

Looking great Robin. That sign looks fantastic. Good luck at the Convention & hope you get lots of positive interest. (Like all of us I'd love a card but postage costs ... esp. to Aus probably not so good until there is more merch available.)

Aww I want a sexy business card. Also I'm working on a couples cosplay with my wife for this game.
Just need some booty babes dressed in cosplay of the girls from the game. The costumes should be quite easy to arrange though, since they spend most of their time out of them. XD
