Robin

Owww, thanks! :D

Dacer

I absolutely do, Robin. It's part of why I scraped together the ,money to become a patron of Space Rescue. As Precursor alludes to above, so much of what passes for standard porn is just plain ugly and mean. This is what happens when so-called "decent" society refuses to acknowledge that sex can be a happy and restorative part of human life -- the entire topic of sex gets left in the hands of profiteers, and other people who don't give one thin damn about representing human desire accurately or positively. Space Rescue is meant to be a fun, happy, space comedy, and we all know that, but thank you for making the sexy component of your game more truthful, human, and positive as well.

Back when I was a teenager I was on a multi-day ferry trip (part of the Alaska Highway system) and I got in a debate with a woman who took the position of science has nothing in common with science fiction. I and my friends started listing items from science fiction that are now real. She dismissed them all saying, there was a need, so someone made them. Finally I had an epiphany. I stated, "There is one thing you can not discount that BOTH scientific research and science fiction writers have in common. They both start at the same place. Asking 'What if?'" she got mad and walked off.

Robin

I agree PrecursorDesign :D And I 'm generally not to concerned with the correct language for everything; but when things are easy to change, I glady go along with it :)

Robin

Haha! That I didn't know; but it's a great coincidence ;) Thanks for sharing that!

Robin

I sometimes wonder how long we can still make' science fiction', before it all just becomes science ;) Cool stuff!

Robin

Thanks Dacer, I consider that to be a huge compliment :) I really wanted to send out some positive vibes with this game & I'm glad you see that in the game.

Robin

Thank you so much for that reply PrecursorDesign! When I started this game, I actually wondered if people would care about the worldbuilding. But I'm very happy that you do ;) And as you said, it's probably a good counterbalance for the silly stuff as well - I didn't really realized that till now, but you're probably right there ;)

Robin

Thank you! And I also had fun designing that sodo-pop machine :)

Dacer

Aye. I don't consider Space Rescue a "porn game", even though it contains scenes of overt sexuality. In fact, for a light-hearted comedy game, Space Rescue does a better job of representing the positives of human sexuality -- affection, connection, sharing not just pleasure but friendly joy with another person -- than the entire history of porn ever has.

Dacer

Wow! Working hard to keep both the science and the fiction in Space Rescue on target, Robin! Please know that your efforts are appreciated. If it's of use to you, a quantum physicist friend of mine did some work with plasma in a California research installation some years back. He was quite amused to report to me, and I quote, "Did you know that plasma is actually purple?" So there ya go. Thanks again!

Amen Brother.

Well, I've read about NASA's VASIMR engine that uses an electric power source to ionize fuel into plasma which using magnetic fields ejects it from the engine. That simply directed into a vat of metal would probably melt it pretty easily

Neff

nah it really should be called a "plasma furnace" Because that's the actual real life name for them they are real and they run around 1000–15,000°C. Also if you look up "plasma Furnace" it should show you some diagrams of how it works, I found a few pictures of the plasma it shoots out also if that helps at all.

To me, this game (or any other game, really) isn't just about one thing, such as 'sexy girls' as you said. When devs just ignore logic, reason, or just forgo explaining why something is the way it is (Why is every girl in X game 'mindbroken', why is the 18+/- shota looking guy getting laid by everyone, why does every girl have size ZZZ breasts, etc), I don't even bother playing it. It's world-building and story that's important to me, because without it it's JUST that, a porn game, no different from the cheap ones we played on hornygamer.com back in the day. When you, the dev, can actually make a story and have it be believable, to me, that's much better than a lewd fap fest. I don't even really get off to any of the adult games I play anymore...I play them because to me, the AAA industry constantly puts out 'realistic' games, yet forgets to include a major part of human existence. I get it can't go in every game, but the gaming industry has largely shunned adult content for years, simply because society still deems sex, the thing necessary to continue the human race, as taboo. Long story short, I love that you added this 'plasma oven', and that you take the time to look into stuff like this. While the game has an air of silliness about it, things like the 'plasma oven' keep things more grounded. This way, the next silly thing you make doesn't have to top the 'plasma oven', since you already brought us back to a bit of believable content. Rant over. Sorry!~

PrecursorDesign

I think that, for the purposes of this futuristic world you've created, where we don't know all of the current linguistic uses of words, Plasma Oven works great. I don't think I would ever assume that plasma would be used to cook my food, given it would all be burnt instantly anyway XD

Shadow_dreamer

Trying to make something seem like it could be possible is not necessarily for this game, but I love it! It make reading stuff about the world fun. Like the energy drinks.

Robin

Ah interesting! In dutch an 'oven' is also called 'oven'. But we use that term also for big ovens. I kinda assumed it would be the same in english for that reason :) But I appreciate you mentioning this, I'm always happy to learn something new!

Zelmra

Well, even when metals go inside, in English we call it a "furnace". "Oven" usually implies food. Which, I mean, you could have a metal-eating race, but they're not here at the moment! (Though that could be an interesting quest if they're a sort of space-pest. Get rid if them before they eat the ship!)

Robin

I agree! That would be better now that the flame heats the metal & nothing really goes inside the 'oven'. Ha ;) By the way; I also came across 'plasma lighters', I guess it also looks a bit like that now.

Zelmra

Since it's melting metals, perhaps "plasma furnace" would work a bit better than "oven"? And those actually exist (though your version is a far more advanced version than what we have today): https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electric_arc_furnace
