This week I've been making some general preparations for the next update.
Soda-Pop machine
Now there will be a situation where Keen needs to get a drink from the soda machine, so I've been drawing that. And of course it's no regular soda machine; for this one really makes your drink pop!
Here you can see a gif-image of the progress. As you can see, my first sketches are far from pretty, but I just make them to figure out the plan. Next I always do the basic line work to find the exact shapes & from there on I color the details.
Well, once I'm done with the static image, I add the parts that need to 'animate'; which are in fact just a few different states of the image that will appear while Keen gives some comments. In this case it's little work to make these animations & really like the effect, because it shows how the machine works.
Junker ship sketches
I've also made a few interior sketches for the junker ship (there will be more rooms then this). The junkers haul in a lot of junk from space, so I imagined they would have a big hall where they sort things out for recycling.
Now my goal has always been to add more mini-games to the game. And so, I designed this hall in a way it also is a mini game :) At some point you'll need to operate the crane (left) to move junk around. When you do, you will see this room in top-view and discover it's a sliding boxes puzzle. And then your goal is to move an old arcade machine, towards the elevator next to the central gap. I'm still working out the details, but it should be fun :)
Well, once you got the arcade on the elevator, you'll see this. This is junkers workshop and here you can buy several custom-made items. Now at the moment it all looks a bit greyish & dull, but that will change of course as soon as I start detailing these images :)
