They have to be careful because they have to justify genocide and the killing of infants by both Yahweh and the Israelites in the Old testament. See William Lane Craig for many, many, many such justifications. Though torture is not expressly mentioned, I think they want to make it clear that if a god told them to do that, they would do it..

LMAO!!! This guy chose the difference between Hitler and Mother Teresa. I saw a documentary where there was someone that said Mother Teresa who had millions of dollars and didn't donate that money to helping a hospital and her saying something to the effect that the people there were going to die anyway. Not word for word but a vague description of what I remember.
