I think it’s very important to talk about Hamas’s right under international law to violently resist their oppression, but I do think it might be the one time where both-sidesing is appropriate, bc the specifics of their resistance (targeting civilians and taking children hostage) was also a violation of international law. Israel’s crimes are on an entirely different scale and the media’s bias towards them is despicable, but it has to be possible to lionize the Palestinian liberation struggle without lionizing Hamas (and without wasting time villainizing them when Israel is actively committing a genocide) … but all that said, this episode was truly a banger

This episode reminded me of a quote of Paulo Freire “when education is not liberating, the dream of the oppressed is to become the oppressor.” If trauma is not dealt with, it solidify the insecurity and shame which make the person identify control and oppression as “strength”. Naomi Klein warned about “male humiliation/shame” on this show before. I think men tend to have harder time to cultivate truly equal relationships with others. They’d prefer hierarchy where the interactions are always form of control, receiving it or deploying it. Ranking people, evaluating people…if only this type of relationships(essentially always competing) are rewarded and encouraged, you got yourself neoliberal society. And how Dr.Ware told us that that type of mentality is depicted as the serpent in Adam and Eve context in Quran was awesome. Thank you for yet another great episode!
