Could Asterion be one of the lost Primarchs? Found by the High Lords, maybe in the black vaults? I imagine a lost primarch wouldn't have a lot of love for the emperor, so it would make sense why he wouldn't care about the authority of the custodes, or what happens to earth, but owes a debt to the high lords for freeing him / let him do his thing. I think probably not but it's fun to speculate. Edit: okay I commented too soon, this was covered 😂
