Just a comment on the thunder warriors they were essentially murderous special forces with ptsd that were very susceptible to chaos and I think all there primarchs were just thunder warriors that got promoted and made the name themselves i think. So it's more so they named the space marines and primarch after them

Since Valdor has the thoughts/lifetimes of thousands of people he's killed, and is very close to physically being close to the Emperor's original strength, he could very much be a potential vessel. Throwback to the Chaos gods episode, they call Big E "the Anathema", and it's written that Gulliman when seeing him hears hundreds/thousands of voices talking all at once. So what if Valdor is the Emperor's new body, and he's just waiting for the sign?

Story has it that it took 10 space marines to take down a hidden and lose Thunder warrior underneath the emperor's palace and all he wanted to know is why he and his brothers were abandoned FYI as the story is told he shrugged off bolter rounds and killed 30 or so marines until a contingent of like 10 all ran him through with glaives pikes and spears and sill wasn't dead it took a custodies to come down to actually end him
