Voodoo was and is practiced in the USA, yes. Go to New Orleans, there are a bunch of Voodoo 'shops' where you can buy spells! But voodoo, based on my limited knowledge, isn't evil. It's an amalgam of native African rituals/ spirituality and Christianity. So the detectives at the end saying 'they were practicing voodoo' is a bit dismissive and derogatory and no, not what the cult was doing, at all, really.

Re: the affected English accent, I think he started it because of whatever was in the TV, but all the books stacked around the house imply that he is quite intelligent and a reader (where he got the term “constitutional”). oh man.. I had a very different reading of the ending. Rust, in that between life and death state, found his loved ones in the dark, in the *deepest darkness*, but got pulled back into the light. the knowledge he was ripped away from his daughter in the dark is what breaks him. that scene, to me, is Rust grieving what he lost by coming back to life.

Finishing rewatching this and what a great video — loved all the stuff you pointed out. One thing I realized on this rewatch that I really liked was the fact that the last episode being called “Form and Void.” That term of course comes from the beginning of the King James Bible which is “In the beginning, the earth was without form and void” which of course is a reference to Rust’s words “it used to be all darkness.” Thanks again for doing this series!

Loved it! Honestly didn't sound too rambly to me, I think you made good points all around and anyway your rambles are just as fun to listen to. Personally I think you're right that Childress is the Stranger, and that he's trying to ascend (maybe to become a king in yellow himself?). Perhaps that's why he was allowed to fail, as punishment for trying to ascend above his "station" as emissary. I also think not showing a King in Yellow as a character onscreen could be a choice by the show to keep him mysterious and potent as a symbol, the same way we never see the full tape or read the full text of the play.
