Which isn't great for a Patreon that is allegedly about checks notes talking about films. So I'm going to watch the Substance over the next day or so and film a response to that. I think I'm going to see Nosferatu on Thursday but wanted to do something quicker than that.
However, in the interest of getting easy content up, please use this post as a space to ask me anything, and I'll do a little Q&A video over the next few days as a little bit of lazier content as well. I'll probably just do it once there's a decent amount of questions below, so get asking! It doesn't have to be academic/film related, and naturally I can't promise to have an answer to everything but I'll do my best to clumsily navigate whatever you throw at me.

I know this ask my anything has already happened, I was just wondering if you could explain how you get your movies for your videos, in film class I make videos talking about the movies we cover, it's part of our grading system, but I honestly just have to hope the clip I need is on YouTube and that I can use Dirpy to download it Specifically I'm also wondering, I'm right now watching your longlegs commentary and Im wondering how you recorded it with the arrows, was that added afterwards? And also how are you recording while also playing the movie in real time if that makes sense. Thanks, Marcus

Have you thought about collaborating with other youtubers. Not like the weapon guy but he was great. But I mean folks who study the film score, cinematography, acting, etc and see how those aspects play with the meaning of the film. For score: Charles Cornell or Sideways channels.

Just to make sure it’s on here when you’re looking through, I’d love to hear about those paranormal experiences.. And if you’ve got the time: Is there a movie in your recent memory that you hoped would be good, but was so bad that it made you upset? (I watched M Night’s ‘Trap’ recently and had this experience, which is pretty rare for me. Figure it would be interesting what you consider to be on the opposite spectrum of the films you cover.)

A Q&A section is cool! Hope your new year is going well :) some questions I have are 1) what got you into this deep understanding and interest in film analysis? I remember in one video you mentioned a teacher who really inspired you, was it a similar situation that inspired you to make analysis vids? 2) any “bad” movies you still love? (Bad as in cheesy or poorly reviewed or bad effects etc etc. like I love looney tunes back in action haha.) basically any “guilty pleasure” movies? 3) seconding someone else’s comment about Mike Flanagan media, have you ever watched his stuff? Haunting Of Hill House is so freaking good and gets me every time! 4) would you ever consider doing book analysis? I love House of Leaves and Blood Meridian!! Would also be cool if maybe you did book/movie combos? Like Annihilation or Apocolypse Now or No Country For Old Men?

Can you one day maybe give us a rundown on your process in how you begin breaking down and forming your thoughts on the movies you make your videos about? I am wondering because I want to be able to study films and media that I like and understand them well, like you do. I am very passionate about film but "how to do a film study" videos haven't been very helpful to me. Though I understand if you want to keep your process under wraps. Love from Texas
