"Yeah," her girlfriend chimed in. "We're here for the ambiance, and to paaaarty, and for whatever free shit you're handing out." He smiled knowingly at them, held up a finger to signal for them to wait, then produced an ornate tea set. Wherever it had come from, they didn't see. "Tea?" she snorted. "Is it at least spiked?" He nodded, handing them two delicate cups. They sipped. "Mmm...hey, not bad!" The two fidgeted and waited for his attention to shift to other customers, then quickly shuffled away, taking his teacups with them. They giggled about how darling they were as they gulped the rest of the tea down.
"So we scored that soup earlier, and the meat sticks, some lame party favors, and now these cute cups," she tallied. "They're not giving away anything nearly as good as last year. Should we sha-aaAAAWWWP-lift something cool?" Her girlfriend laughed. "ShawWWWPlift! You sound ridiculous! Haw haw haawWWWW!" The two laughed together, their voices growing throaty and hoarse. The sights and sounds of the festival became a blur...when their slacks slipped from around their waists, they stepped out of them without missing a beat, kicking off their ruined shoes in the same motion. When their purses slid off their arms, they lacked the fingers to catch them, so simply left them where they fell, bray-laughing at their blunt, stubby appendages. They stumbled down the thoroughfare together in a haze, growing more unsteady by the minute, but without a care in the world...not for the festival, nor for the crowds giving them a wide berth...not for the thoughts slipping from their minds, the meager education they'd squandered anyway...not for their humanity.
