Chapter 97: Taste Of The New World I
.................
The first half of the Grand Line's name, Paradise, comes from people that have returned from the New World.
The second half of the Grand Line is a whole new world of adventures beyond anything that one might face in the first half.
It is such an abhorrent challenge that the first half of the Grand Line is referred to as Paradise when comparing it to the second half.
And the Strangers got to see its danger before even reaching the surface because they somehow found themselves amidst a few underwater cyclones, and a few means a few dozen.
"Hey, Laffitte, are you sure you know what you're doing?" Yovan had to question.
"Hmm, let me think..." Laffitte stroked his chin as he eyed the surroundings, taking his time despite not having much time left.
The cyclones were fighting for possession of the Ship, trying to attract it toward them.
"Oh, yeah! That one should do!" After a while, Laffitte pointed towards one of the cyclones, seeming quite excited.
"That one what?" Kalifa wondered with confusion.
"Hm? We should go into it of course!" Laffitte explained as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
"Did the whitebeard pirate beat your brain out of your head?" Kalifa had to wonder, "Or are you trying to turn our grand Ship from one worth almost a billion to one worth no more than a hundred thousand? You know, like you."
"Pfffft Kuhahahahaha!"
"Yahahahahaahaha!"
They simply couldn't hold it back as they burst out laughing much to Laffitte's withering sanity, "At least I'm not an old hag competing with fishes for the Captain's attention!!!!"
"An old hag?" Kalifa bit her lips as she walked up to Yovan, shamelessly taking a seat right on his lap and eyeing him seductively, "Am I an old hag, Captain? An affirmative answer would be considered sexual harassment."
"Yahahahaha," Yovan laughed loudly before giving Laffitte a wicked look, "She's absolutely gorgeous, but you don't have to feel so bad... I'm sure there is someone out there who would appreciate you... Perhaps?"
"Agreed!" Kaku nodded repeatedly, "The World's history is quite long, so I'm sure that somewhere in the past, someone existed that would've appreciated you... They might be a skeleton now, but eh..."
Laffitte's face remained emotionless as he continued to steer the ship, seemingly unfazed by their bullying.
But something did snap in his mind, evident by the change of direction to a completely different cyclone, "I... You know, Cap, I miss Bege, I miss bullyi... Playing with him, so let's make our trip a little bit faster, shall we?"
"Are you actually trying to do what I think you're trying to do?" Kalifa asked with a giggle, seemingly enjoying the bullying she was putting him through.
"I'm not trying anything dangerous if that's what you're asking," Laffitte shook his head before turning around and eyeing the back of the ship. He opened his mouth widely to a ridiculous degree as he flared his white wings, "HAA!"
He released a sonic bomb from his mouth, so immense it sent the Ship flying towards the cyclone much to Kalifa's dismay, and she even expected his actions.
"Lahahaahahaha, let's die!!!"
"Yahahahaahaha, let's say hi to death!!"
"Kuahahahahaha, Seizon! Let's bully the sky, yahhoooooo!!!!"
The cyclones were quite odd, some were drawing in a downward spiral while others were guiding towards the sky, and Laffitte sent the ship towards one of the latter.
So the Ship was instantly swallowed by the cyclone, seemingly enjoying the spiral ride toward the top, but only Kalifa knew just how dangerous the cyclone was because her bubble was the thing protecting the Ship from destruction.
She couldn't help but completely relax in Yovan's lap, unable to control her body as her full focus was on the Soap Bubble.
Kalifa ate the Awa Awa no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit which allows her to create and control soap bubbles.
The bubbles that Kalifa creates are capable of cleaning anything, they can even "clean" things such as concepts.
She learned under Kureha to maximize her powers, and it turned out that her Devil Fruit suits her quite a lot because she's capable of cleaning up some of the destructive nature of the cyclone.
The rest of the cyclone's destructiveness was dealt with by the sheer defense and slipperiness of the bubble alone.
And soon they saw the sky, a dark sky. They even breached the clouds due to the sheer force that threw them out of the cyclone.
If the danger of the cyclones wasn't enough, the Strangers found themselves flying amidst a hurricane of pure lightning, bright purple lightning all around.
"Wow, I wanna cry, we didn't die," Laffitte murmured with disappointment.
"No, but that was so cool!! Do that more!!" Kaku encouraged.
"Agreed!" Yovan also nodded.
"Aghh, a bunch of manchildren! not you, Captain, but we might actually die, I can't hold on for long!" Kalifa erupted before pleading with Yovan. The purple lightning was too much.
So Yovan flared his vast black wings, creating numerous feathers that went on to surround the Ship, each and every feather was hardened with Armament Haki.
"Kaku!! Activate the Fire Bursts!" Yovan yelled, sweating a bit. The lightning was actually a bit too dangerous and destructive, and his Haki was spread out too much, "I won't be able to hold on for long!"
Kaku vanished, and less than a second passed before the Fire Bursts were activated, sending the Ship flying away, and yes, there was more than one fire burst engine as two were added recently by Kaku.
Well, the Strangers were quite unlucky. Then again, this was a misfortune of their own making. Such is the nature of the Strangers. They want to survive, but they don't mind walking on the edge of death.
Seizon No Hono flared its dark wings, flapping slowly to gently land on the sea.
"Phew! That was close." Kaku released a breath, excitement apparent in his eyes, "I wonder if I can someday jump amidst lightning, sounds so cool!"
"God, they've infected you too, Kaku?" Kalifa facepalmed.
"We survived. This might be a sign that the world is wrong, not me. I must be worth like billions." Laffitte nodded with strong convictions!
"Hey, Laffitte, I'm curious, what have you been smoking? I want some too." Yovan asked with curiosity.
"Hm? I don't smoke, it's bad for my skin." Laffitte raised a brow out of confusion.
"Wait... Can I make up turn someone kinda high? That's why you're skin looks so good, right?" Yovan further asked, drawing a giggle out of Kalifa.
"Aghh, I really miss being a baby sometimes. I remember just having to cry for mom to practically conform to my every need. Sure, sometimes it leads to father beating me up, but sometimes it works, but you guys are just ruthless." Laffitte murmured as he brought out a Log Pose.
"Haa?"
"Huh?"
"What?" Laffitte asked with confusion at the Strangers' strange expressions.
"Oh, such memories. I remember my dad taking me to a certain jungle when I was twelve... Aghh, such a pain it was. My father never beat me up, but the jungle certainly did.
The brutal making of nature was known as the forest of knives due to the karst limestone formations that make up the stone forests.
The limestone rocks have an elevation of up to 70 meters from the ground, and they have razor-sharp edges that make them form a knife-like shape. "
Yovan even went on to let out a laugh as he showed them his right knee, "I got this scar from there, but dad brought me back to the jungle in about a week, so I got myself this scar. Oh, there is this one too! I cried on this one."
"Oh, thanks, I was smart enough to kind of, just kind of manipulate my father to not hurt my skin too much. You had it hard, Cap." Laffitte frowned as he eyed the scars.
So he further added, "It makes me wonder why they paid 800 million for you, you're kinda unclean... Well, you were way cooler when you didn't have any flesh."
"Yeah, I disagree." Kalifa wanted to hang herself there and then. How were the Strangers' common sense so fucking broken? She wondered.
She remembered how much her heart would break for Yovan every time she had to look at his state.
She could only imagine the pain he was going through, so his recovery was a great relief to her.
"Hmm, we really didn't have any special experience growing up, did we, Kalifa?" Kaku murmured, seeming absent-minded, "Just training, eating, training, eating, listening to orders, performing the said orders, rinse and repeat."
"Training? Eating? Sounds good to me." Yovan shrugged with a smile as he stood, "But if you do not have any special memories, let's make some!!"
"If only you were as enthusiastic about my problems Cap," Laffitte couldn't help but shake his head, "Help me get a 1 billion bounty."
"That's easy, no? Just kill a World Noble. Everyone heard of the Apollo dude who killed one, and he got himself a three billion bounty!!! That's double my bounty!" Yovan gave nice advice.
"Sounds like a great Idea!" A grin took place on Laffitte's pale face.
"God no." Kalifa had to facepalm yet again. She has come to do that a lot as of recently. Yovan has no idea why.
Kaku's reaction, on the other hand, was nothing but a smile, 'Yeah, let's make some special memories. More than we already had, together...'
