Chapter 73: Ruthlessness Of Misfortune III
.................
"It's indeed." Yovan nodded as he traced his fingers along with his bloody face, blood coursing from his missing left eye... Even his body was bloodstained.
Most of the blood was falling from his wings, his hybrid-form wings. In contrast to his beast-form wings which are quite frail, his hybrid-form wings are extremely durable.
And he used them to stop Maha's slash from hitting his body directly. The damage to his wings was very much irrelevant to Yovan, but losing one of his eyes... It was a necessary sacrifice, no matter how much it hurt.
It was the result of Maha spewing a black needle from his mouth, launching directly at Yovan's eye.
It was hardened with Armament Haki, so it would've certainly pierced through his head if he wasn't somewhat prepared for that with a thick shield of feathers.
Maha seemed to be the only one around capable of not only Armament Haki but also Observation Haki.
"Speed!" Maha stated as he spread his very long arms, letting several needles fall from his sleeve into between his fingers, an inky substance quickly enveloping them.
Those needles made bells ring in Yovan's mind. They were deadly, so it made him wonder why didn't use them before.
His order made the two of Rob and Jabra stand straight as they took a deep breath before releasing it, letting out a burst of hot steam in the process.
Their relatively large Hybrid Form quickly became slimmer and slimmer until it became the size of their human form.
The group became cautious as they changed their methods, their face seeming tense but also more at ease knowing that Yovan will certainly not be able to hold on for long.
As always, Rob Lucci was the first to Soru towards Yovan, reaching him in the blink of an eye. He was by far the fastest among them, and the strongest if Maha is taken out of the equation.
Yovan didn't see much of Maha's capabilities to make a judgment, he found it extremely unlikely for him to be even faster because Lucci's current form was way too fast.
At the same time, Jabra leaped towards Yovan with wide arms as if he wanted to hold him, all while Nero was firing bullet after bullet.
However, something strange happened as Yovan Scattered. Rob Lucci took a deep breath as he placed both his fists right in front of the Scattered feathers to focus his physical strength and launch a devastating shock wave from his knuckles in a forward direction.
The technique is called Rokuogan, the ultimate attack of the Rokushiki style. Only those who have absolute mastery of the other six skills can have access to this seventh technique.
It took him but a split second to perform the move while his fellow agents all took their shots at the feathers, trying to intercept Yovan from appearing.
The most troublesome thing, however, was Maha who instantly released more than two dozen needles all in seemingly random directions.
But they weren't random. Each needle was targeting a feather floating about. They seemed to have realized how Yovan's Awakening works, but it still wasn't enough.
Yovan emerged high in the sky from one of the backup feathers he kept there, just in case. His expression didn't seem happy though because he hesitated.
And his hesitation led to his right waist looking completely broken. Rob Lucci's attack reached him.
Perhaps he was just not experienced enough or the fact that he was thinking if it was worth it to take out Rob there and then distracted him.
It was actually horrifying just how fast it was because Rob Lucci was the first person to wound Yovan without the latter allowing since his Awakening.
The feather he resides in when in his Awakening is called the Crow Feather, and it pretty much acts as his true body but hidden under the disguised of a feather.
So they decided to target all of the feathers, but things only became worse from there as they continued repeating the process again and again.
The only difference was that he no longer hesitated as he pushed his Observation Haki to look for a perfect opportunity.
But that didn't help his luck at all. Somehow, all of Maha's attacks target the Crow feather, always.
It wasn't some forte of Maha. No, it was simply Yovan's misfortune working as intended against him.
"Hah," Yovan released a breath as he appeared behind Nero, his expression seeming stoic. He extended his hand towards the terrified agent, ready for the kill.
"Do it!" Maha screamed, but he did nothing to stop Yovan from killing Nero. He merely tried to stall him as he launched a dozen needles about.
'As I thought, they were setting up a trap.' Yovan thought in his mind as he felt a headache course through his brain.
He was pushing his Observation Haki way too much, trying to sense even the most minute of details around.
He clearly sensed just about a dozen doors opening around him, from which appeared Blueno, and Jabra. The former simply snapped his fingers, causing Yovan to become dizzy again.
He used the Revolving door move again, causing Yovan's face to start spinning, but the latter simply ignored it by closing his eyes.
The move seems to be temporary, only staying active for about a minute before it ends, or a better way to describe it would be before the door closes.
They strangely allowed him a lot of leeways as Yovan formed another arm, one made of feathers. His real hand didn't even need to touch Nero before it released a shockwave.
His vast wings only worked to act as a line of defense against Jabra and Blueno, allowing them to pretty easily pierce through them with their Shigan.
Nero was a sacrifice, having to suffer the brunt of the shockwave, and when Yovan's hand came in contact with his head... His head broke, leaving Yovan's hand bloody.
It wasn't just Nero's blood, but also Yovan's because using Kiryu Hasshoken wasn't easy for him. It had a price because he can not use Armament Haki.
It left his hand fairly broken, but he knows that wasn't the end as he felt something encircle his ankle just as a bunch of needles were on the brink of reaching him.
At that same moment, both Maha and Rob Lucci leaped towards Yovan, their expression speaking of victory because the thing around his ankle was a Seastone cuff.
It's the nemesis of Devil Fruit users, something that negates their powers. No, it even makes them powerless, barely able to muster any strength.
Death was a certainty if things went like this, but Maha could see it clearly as his Rankyaku was on the verge of slashing Yovan along with his Shigan.
He saw Yovan's entire body vibrating to the point that he started bleeding from the entirety of his body, and then a shockwave was released.
The shockwave was so destructive it seemingly caused cracks in the space around him to the point it almost created a barrier of sorts.
Anyone seeking to breach through the barrier would have to suffer through the shockwave. Jabra and Blueno didn't, but Maha and Rob Lucci both did.
And both of them seem to be able to use Rokuogan, one of the Cipher Pol's most dangerous moves, yet Yovan chose to take it head on as his hand reached for the ground.
His wings this time weren't capable of stopping their attacks, not Rokuogan, but allowed himself to get hit as he caught someone's head with his bare hand.
It was a green-haired individual, someone who seemed to have just joined the battle, or he was hiding exactly to put the Seastone cuff on Yovan's ankle.
And he did so through Blueno's ability as he somehow peaked his head from a door on the ground.
His name was Fukurou and he's or was one of the CP9. Now, he was dead. Yovan made sure of it even as he felt his body being destroyed.
[Awakening: Scatter!]
It was, however, too late. Yovan was dead, or he was supposed to be dead, but they were unaware of where he actually appeared.
He found himself in a dark green world. It was on the same Island, but everything seemed to have a dark green tint to it, almost like it was a mirror dimension of sorts.
And he was standing behind Blueno. He was in the latter's Devil Fruit dimension, the place he moves on after going through his doors.
Yovan's frail broken hand held something... A heart. His arm was in fact in Blueno's chest, basking in the latter's blood as it kept shaking, creating tremors through his body.
Blueno didn't see it coming because he thought Yovan was no longer capable of using his Devil Fruit powers, and so did Maha and Rob Lucci, but they were too later to question what just happened before them, Yovan scattering into feathers.
