When Messmer embarked on the purge of the Land of Shadow on Queen Marika the Eternal's orders, Gaius accompanied Messmer and directed his soldiers.
Gaius and Radahn were rivals and learned from the same Alabaster Lord. However, their rivalry was considered friendly in nature.
